Ditto to what Really Interesting said about the music. I am hoping it is gone after a few episodes or I may need to stop listening. Otherwise great job.

  • Really Interesting

I would give this podcast a five star review if there were some way I could listen without the background music/accompaniment. I am so sorry to give this feedback but it is so disturbing to my adhd brain.

  • Excellent podcast for DCPs

Nick has an incredibly gentle way of connecting with fellow DCPs (donor conceived people). As both a listener & participant (ep.6) of this podcast, I can say that Nick does a wonderful job of helping his participants feel comfortable in sharing. His empathy level is over the top as well. DCPs have a variety of struggles that arise & throughout these early episodes, Nick has done a great job of covering the vast issues that we face. I love how a voice is being given to our donor conceived communi... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 46: The Open Donor Association
Q: How do you handle potential conflicts between donors and recipients regarding expectations and costs?
We provide clear communication guidelines, transparency about costs, and structured conversations through our education programs; donors can offer standard services, but all arrangements are negotiated directly between donor and recipient within the Open Donor Association framework.
Episode 46: The Open Donor Association
Q: What screening process would you use to determine if someone should join The Open Donor Association?
We assess the donor's goals, ensure they are genuinely committed to open donation, and run a comprehensive education and testing protocol, including genetic carrier testing and health screenings, before they enter a Golden Standard portfolio and are connected with recipients.
Episode 56: With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility
Q: What has been the biggest challenge in sharing this with your kids and your partner's family?
The hardest part has been balancing honesty with sensitivity—explaining donor conception to children as part of our family story, while also navigating a partner's family beliefs and maintaining open lines of communication with siblings and parents.
Episode 56: With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility
Q: So you are 36, and I assume your world changes quite significantly. Tell us a little bit how that unfolded.
After learning of the donor conception, I began an intense period of research, connected with half-sisters, discovered more siblings through matches, and started processing the grief and new identity while rebuilding relationships with family.
Episode 56: With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility
Q: All right. Very excited to dive into this. And when you say four years ago, can you give a little context as to what stage of your life that occurred in?
I was about to turn 36, and the discovery unfolded during a period of actively exploring my ancestry and health history, which ultimately led to uncovering donor conception and a cascade of family conversations.
