  • THANK YOU (💔Minnesotan)

Thank you for saying something. For speaking up and sharing the stories when so many others are not… as an NHL season ticket holder and big hockey gal (go Wild?) I am so disappointed in the Wild for not postponing their game or at least holding a moment of silence last Saturday… I am proud of the Frost (what’s upppp PWHL) & the Wolves for their actions this last weekend.. anyways. Thank you.

  • Need more in-depth coverage

As someone who is not a self-described sports fanatic but enjoys watching sports and keeps up with the major events, I love having this podcast to turn to for quick updates. I would love to see more in-depth coverage of the major issues and for the interviews with sports stars to be longer and more in-depth. I just listened to the Napheesa Collier one and both Napheesa and interviewer Lauren are amazing, but I was just left wanting more. These don’t feel like answers that only the Gist can get o... more

I love the Gist pod. Its like hanging out with my besties although I’m old enough to be their Auntie.

Ellen and Steph get me. I find myself replying to their takes out loud as I listen and they just seem like they are having fun. And they are 🇨🇦.

  • Get jazzed up for your day!

I used to listen to 4 different sports podcasts, but was frustrated that all the news coverage and commentary was on men’s sports. At best, one story (out of dozens) per week would have been related to women’s sports. The gist covers sports of all genders!

And…I 🩷 their jingle. GIST - Please play the whole thing at the end of each episode. It gives me the right boost to start my day! (The shortened jingle misses some of the pump up!)

Keep up the great work, and continue growing sports fans fo... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#551: Our unfiltered PWHL playoff reactions
Q: Why did Montreal choose to play the Frost in the semi-finals, and what are the implications for travel and home-ice advantage?
Montreal's choice seems to balance competing priorities: facing a proven champion while hoping to leverage home-ice edge and avoid higher travel burden, even though the number one seed has a seal on home-ice and the potential for shorter travel in some scenarios.
The GIST Plus: Odessa Jenkins champions women's tackle football (The GIST Plus preview)
Q: Where and when did your relationship with football begin?
Odessa shares that she fell in love with football from a young age, playing with boys and later pursuing college basketball, but ultimately found a path back to the sport by recognizing a space for women in tackle football.
#550: What happened to the Seattle Torrent and Vancouver Goldeneyes?
Q: Kate asks how coaching impacts game play across sports, with a focus on basketball.
The hosts explain that coaching shapes everything from defensive schemes to in-game adjustments, with careful play-calling and anticipation of opponents' moves being central to success, and they use basketball as a concrete example to illustrate these dynamics.
#552: Timothee Chalamet’s manspreading and hot takes on PWHL postseason
Q: How does the PWHL playoff format work and what makes it different from the NHL?
The PWHL uses four teams in the postseason with two rounds (semis and finals), both best of five. The top seed gets to choose their opponent, and unlike the NHL, there are five-on-five overtimes with no shootouts in the postseason.
The GIST Plus: Aliyah Funschelle is playing athlete matchmaker (The GIST Plus preview)
Q: How did you get started in sports media and what inspired you to bet on yourself?
She shares starting with anonymous and branded social media accounts in high school and college, building credibility through coverage of her university's sports, facing early pushback on using social media for storytelling, and ultimately deciding to pursue a career in sports media with determination and self-belief.
