Too much talking about football and other stuff. You could strip this down to a 30 minute show to cover the actual information.

I was excited to listen to this podcast. They didn’t get to the topic advertised until after 16 minutes and 2 sets of advertisements. Speaking of advertisements...there are way too many for a podcast.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

GRFTFS: Retiring - Time to Combine Accounts?
Q: How much does it typically cost to work with a financial advisor, and what should I expect from that relationship?
Costs vary based on asset level, planning needs, and complexity, but a transparent process is key. Expect clear explanations of fees before building a plan, with emphasis on value over price. A good advisor will focus on a plan first, then align investments to that plan, and may charge planning fees in addition to asset management fees.
GRFTFS: Retiring - Time to Combine Accounts?
Q: We've always had separate accounts and we're retiring next year. Is it time to combine, or should we keep things separate?
There isn't a one-size-fits-all answer. You can keep some accounts separate due to different ownership or beneficiary rules, but you can still consolidate the planning into a single, coordinated income stream. Estate planning, trusts, and strategic reallocation can help manage taxes and beneficiary goals while preserving individual ownership.
GRFTFS: Retiring - Time to Combine Accounts?
Q: I inherited my dad's IRA last year, and I'm confused about the 10-year rule. Do I have to take distributions every year or just by the end?
The 10-year rule generally requires that the inherited IRA be depleted within ten years, but there can be exceptions based on your relation to the decedent and timing considerations. If you were already taking distributions (RMDs) before inheriting, you may need to continue taking something annually to spread taxable income. If you weren't taking RMDs previously, you might not have an annual minimum, but a strategy is still needed to mitigate taxes over the decade.
GRFTFS: Coordinate All of Our Income Sources?
Q: Bo, it's a great question. Should I pay off $30,000 in student loans or max my 401(k)?
The hosts suggest evaluating interest rates versus the value of 401(k) compounding, prioritizing maximizing retirement savings while not over-depleting cash flow, and considering accelerating payments rather than withdrawing retirement funds, with a note that lump-sum debt payoff should be balanced against the ability to save for retirement.
GRFTFS: Vulnerable in First Retirement Years?
Q: Wayne asks about Social Security timing and break-even points for taking benefits.
They discuss break-even calculations, emphasizing delaying if you are the higher earner and plan to be married long-term, while noting exceptions based on health, longevity, and household needs.
