  • Trump support and financial mix. No thanks

A very odd combo of a Trump social network founder talking financials, supposedly focused on happiness. I found it odd and “off”. I don’t trust firebrand politics on any side mixed with financial info.

  • Truth Social, really?

Honestly, I have enjoyed his segments on Clark Howard, so I subscribed. I am disappointed to read what I have about his money making political interests. Clark Howard is very not political, so I feel a little misled. I don't know what to think about this.

Q: Alex in Michigan asks whether to take a lump sum pension or monthly payments for life, and what assumptions should guide that choice.
The rule of 72 mindset is used to compare value: the monthly lifetime pension often yields a reliable baseline, especially when paired with a period certain option and potentially joint survivorship to cover a spouse. The math showed the monthly option can be compelling, but needs to account for personal life expectancy and other income sources.

Q: This one's from Justin in Illinois: Is it better to have your house paid off by retirement given high property taxes, or should you carry a mortgage if it keeps you liquid?
The data suggests mortgage payoff by retirement helps a lot, especially in high tax states; eliminating mortgage by retirement reduces fixed costs, though the exact decision depends on mortgage rate, tax situation, and local property taxes. In many cases, having no mortgage by retirement is favorable for overall happiness and financial flexibility.
Where Should You Live in Retirement? (And How to Pay for It)
Q: Is it worth switching to Vanguard for lower fees if I already have mutual funds with higher costs?
Selling to move to lower-cost funds incurs taxes if there are gains; in retirement accounts, you can switch to lower-cost funds more easily, but in taxable accounts you must weigh the breakeven period.
Where Should You Live in Retirement? (And How to Pay for It)
Q: Should I transfer a TSP to a Roth IRA with Fidelity after retirement?
The host explains that TSP is a strong, low-cost option with limited funds, and suggests a rollover only if it aligns with desired investment flexibility and tax planning; the key is understanding costs and options.
