  • Good advice but too annoyed to listen..

I can’t listen regularly. Too many background noises of clicking and typing which is very offputting and sadly take away from good content. It also sounds like too many words ending in a k sound as well. 🤷‍♀️

  • Terrible audio glitches

James’s content is terrific, but unfortunately I just can’t listen to it anymore. There’s this awful high-pitched metallic noise that he puts all through his podcasts (is it supposed to be clinking coins? Who knows… but it’s so much louder than his voice that it’s incredibly jarring to listen to).

  • Hmmm

Sounds like good advice if you are married, wealthy, etc. What about single, close to retirement with unfortunately little portfolio/assets? Not a lot of financial planners want to bother where the most help is needed.

Taxes on a $3M Retirement Portfolio: What You'll Actually Owe Each Year
Q: The fifth question is for Ari, when can I retire? I am 52, my wife is 50. We want to retire August of 2029. My salary is 100,000, my wife's salary is 139,000.
Ari outlines that retiring early is a trade-off decision and emphasizes understanding actual expenses, the interaction of a pension and Social Security with portfolio withdrawals, and the importance of clarity on how much they truly spend versus how much they save. He notes the need to assess lifestyle goals, potential big costs (travel, healthcare), and the role of assets like a vacation home and various retirement accounts to bridge the gap.
Freedom at 60 Why He Left a Job He Loved (and Doesn’t Regret It) | Retirement Reality
Q: What fears did you have? What did that feel like as you're preparing to tell them?
I didn't have fears, but I wanted to give my company plenty of time to prepare for my departure, so I planned to notify them six months in advance.
Freedom at 60 Why He Left a Job He Loved (and Doesn’t Regret It) | Retirement Reality
Q: How did that process look like? Was it an immediate, easy, I can now prioritize this and do this, or was it a series of things you worked through to get to where you are?
It wasn't immediate. It was more gradual after my heart attack pushed me to prioritize retirement and health.
Retired at 50 Freedom, Guilt… and What No One Tells You | Retirement Reality
Q: What was it like telling your employer?
It was uncomfortable and it made me feel unworthy, but I was surprised by the support and happiness from others.
Retired at 50 Freedom, Guilt… and What No One Tells You | Retirement Reality
Q: What can I practically start doing to start that identity shift, or start that change of mindset?
You need to have something you're going to. You need to figure out what are the things that did fulfill me in the workplace, and how do I fulfill those same needs in this different arena.
