  • Vatican II 60 years

Eric: I suggest you discuss with and then interview Fr. Murr on this subject. He and I are the same age. I’m a revert and love the TLM and attend the NO with my wife.

Fr. Murr celebrates TLM every day , and I’m sure you know his history with the Vatican and his friendship with some big hitters of the 70’s and 80’s.

He has a good understanding and view of Vatican II which I think is really much like your own.

Vatican II is legitimate but has issues in some documents.

  • Appreciate the Perspectives

I read Crisis Magazine but this was my first time listening to your podcast. I listened to the episode about the new pope. I appreciated the diversity of viewpoints even among 3 traditional practicing Catholics. While I have heard some other perspectives that mirrored some of your thoughts, I still learned a lot and I appreciate the church history lesson as well as debunking some of the rumors out there. I will definitely listen again!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Can Being Nice Save the World? (Guest: Robert Greving)
Q: How should one handle conversations on hot-button issues with someone who disagrees strongly?
Speak the truth calmly and charitably, avoid personal attacks, and be willing to pause and reflect; the goal is understanding and truth, not winning the argument.
Can Being Nice Save the World? (Guest: Robert Greving)
Q: How do you define courtesy in practice beyond being polite?
Courtesy is a respect for the dignity of the other person and manifests in all areas of life, from dress and speech to punctuality and setting boundaries in disagreement, with charity at the core.
The Church is the New Israel (Guest: Dr. Matthew Tsakanikas)
Q: How should we understand the term 'New Israel' in relation to the Church and contemporary geopolitical Zionism?
New Israel refers to the Church as the spiritual Israel, a continuity and fulfillment of promises through Christ, while cautioning against conflating political Zionism with biblical Israel; the Church remains Israel of God through faith, not through ethnic or political criteria.
The Church is the New Israel (Guest: Dr. Matthew Tsakanikas)
Q: Would you say that Nostra Aetate allows more ambiguous interpretations, or is it a misinterpretation of a clearly stated teaching?
The consensus is that Nostra Aetate should be read in light of the dogmatic constitutions and the tradition, and while it opened dialogue, it does not authorize misinterpretations such as dual covenants or theological Zionism; the proper framework is continuity with Augustine and the Church Fathers.
Why Communion in the Hand Should Be Banned
Q: Could you explain practically why Communion in the Hand is such a crisis and leads to indifference or sacrilege?
The practice is not part of the old church and is associated with a left-handed, casual reception that treats the Eucharist as common food, increasing risks of losing fragments, reducing reverence, and enabling sacrilege; it also aligns with Calvinistic practices and undermines belief in the real presence.
