I wanted to give The Competition a 5 as its content is great but was only able to listen to Episode 1 — the remaining episodes are behind a paywall. I find that interesting because the podcast named Reveal, from NPR, was where I first heard about this podcast (The Competition) and Reveal is free. I had previously heard Shima’s Pink Card podcast—and Shima does great work. Thank you, Shima!
There is one stunning moment in this podcast, when the competition is shocked to a halt for some of the girls because the news overshadows it. The rest is interesting, but really not critical enough for me. The contest seems pretty toxic to me, but the politics of having to compete to be *the best possible person* in order to pay for college go largely unchallenged.

I don‘t really get the point of this podcast. Is it supposed to be critical of paegants where women get judged by ridiculious standards for their overall appearence and how they should behave? If it supposed to be that it is not critical enough. If it is not supposed to be critical it’s just too boring to be interesting. No shade towards the women in this competition but it just sounds like being trapped in an annoying sorority house. Seems like just hunger for content and being out of ideas.
I thoroughly enjoyed this thoughtful and insightful look into a competition I’ve never heard of though is so representative of the macro and micro cosmos of our world.
