  • It’s okay

The podcast makes some points about conservative politics. Unfortunately, the show spends most of its air time complaining about liberals, liberal decisions, liberal policies, liberal spending, and did I mention the liberals? For a podcast about conservatives it sure gives a lot of air time to liberals. The host and guests do not spend much time proposing solutions in policy, legislation, or budgeting, which is what Canada actually needs.

Perhaps my disappointment is partly my own fault: An ac... more

  • New Candidate gets the real deal!

As the newly nominated Conservative candidate for Courtenay-Alberni, and a podcast host of my own show, I am thrilled with this sharing platform It’s as though I’m sitting down with new and seasoned MPs and getting the raw, real and uncensored truth without the media lens filtering content to “favour the party in charge!”

Each episode offers salient talking points to help a new candidate participate in the hard conversations about our economy, democracy and policy. I feel far more equipped t... more

  • Not great

I listen to hear the Conservative view. But it’s really dry and full of content that can be easily be found on an MPs Twitter page, sadly.

  • The partisan biz angle is too strong

Look when I keep hearing about small business and companies spoken as if they are people- in the middle of this pandemic it really wears thin. This government track record is not as bad as host rhetoric. People directly need some support and of that business owners are also a unique stakeholder but Conservative are harp so hard on business needs and rarely ever take a wider view of public needs. Myopic Conservatives. At least you can hear what makes them tick/whine.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Let’s be clear.
Q: So how does a company hearing this based in Canada with ties to the United States, with trade routes, all of that, then say, okay, how the heck am I going to market my product now in Europe and I got an ocean to cross before I can ship anything?
Majumdar says the proposal is impractical without stronger North American trade arrangements and domestic investment in infrastructure. Exporting energy and critical minerals to Europe would require pipelines, regulatory changes and production capacity.
Let’s be clear.
Q: Just maybe give us your thoughts on this, and then we have a few clips to talk about as well.
Majumdar says Canada should prioritize completing and using CETA, improving domestic productivity and resolving its relationship with the United States. He questions the need for a new political relationship with the EU and raises concerns about sovereignty, regulatory conditions and the costs of membership.
How much longer can Canadians afford to wait?
Q: So originally, so basically it's Quebec to Ontario from Quebec City, Toronto, a new super high-speed rail line that's going to disrupt farmland and private property all throughout the way along the route. Not exactly the best option, in my opinion. But when the government was proposing this to Canadians, it was only about 90 billion in today's dollars. Who knows when it's going to get built? Now it's already up to 113 billion, says the Parliamentary Budget Officer.
Kelly says the project's cost could rise further, and estimates that interest alone on a $90 billion cost would translate to $300 per ticket if there were 12 million passengers a year. He says that excludes repayment, operations, and maintenance, making the project difficult to support through fares.
How much longer can Canadians afford to wait?
Q: Does that look like the election promise? We will be building at speeds not seen in generations.
Kelly says the process is much slower than promised, pointing to a year and a half spent naming a project without a clear approval or construction decision.
The current government is out of touch.
Q: What does that mean for the 80 to 85 percent of goods that go across the border to the United States?
Redekopp says Canada should diversify trade but not neglect its largest customer or risk much of its existing trade in the hope of gaining a small share elsewhere.
