I really enjoy how Julie dives deep into the details of nuclear war preparations, civil defense, and portrayals of nuclear war in film and television. More than once, I’ve found myself laughing out loud when she brings up something we all recognize—like Mrs. Dahlberg’s meltdown in The Day After.
Ever since a rerun of the Day After scared the heck out of me as a kid, I’ve been intensely interested in the subject. So, lots of great detail even for someone who already knows a lot. In short, a podcast made with love and care about the worst thing that could possibly happen :)

Julie McDowall's obsession with the British nuclear war drama 'Threads' is understandable. The indelible memory of watching it as a teenager got me here, and I think it is still an utterly relevant masterpiece - after all, the missiles have never disappeared. But it is Julie's meticulous, wide-ranging research and her calm, personal and spel... more
