  • Essential war waffle

Splendid Second World War podcast which for the most part is informative, reflective and illuminating. The reason why it does not get a five-star review from me is that the narrative, especially on specific battle campaigns, can get lost in the detail - much like passages in some of James Holland’s books and Al Murray’s recent book about Arnhem. Their expertise is more user friendly and engrossing when explaining strategic campaigns, such as the recent series on the War in the Atlantic, which wa... more

  • How the Navy learned to fly

Dreadful to laugh at the death of the first pilot ever to fly off a ship. It really turned my stomach, I know the son of one of his squadron

Members and it shows lousy taste to make a joke of that death - often the presenters laugh at death and misfortunes. My brother had already binned the shows, I am quitting too.

  • Take care of your credibility

“Trump, Hitler, and a warning from History”

If you want to compare those two men as if they were somewhat equal in evil and you make the pretense to be a serious historian you have just made a Dresden of your reputation.

Yes, the WW2 stuff is pretty good and entertaining. Even so, I can’t take them seriously after devoting a whole show to that absurdity.

  • Wonderfully educational.

Truly an eye-opener in the layers of detail Al and Jim explore with their expert guests and authors. I thought I knew a lot about WWII, but so much more now after 3 years of listening. Best of all? The reading material and source references. Brilliant.
