It was the best
I like this pod a lot. The format is simple; usually there’s a new book and the author is, basically, pushing it. But they are mostly interesting and sometimes I get the book and read it. Or look for it at the library. I really liked the episode about Budapest last year. That one turned out to be a really good read. There will be always be more books about the war being written so Angus will always have guests for his show.
I really like world war 2 history this what got
me in to watching ww2 reenactments and I’m planning to do it myself
I felt that the Battle of Leyte Gulf episode was rather weak. despite the guest podcast, having recently written a book on Leyte Gulf, the story of this epic We2 naval engagement was told is a somewhat disjointed fashion and did not capture important aspects of the battle.
Great series I’ve been enjoying for years.Angus is very knowledgeable.

A deep, scholarship-forward history show that centers on World War II across many theaters, focusing on battles, strategic decision-making, leadership dynamics, and personal narratives from the era. Episodes frequently feature historians and authors who bring archival detail, vivid anecdotes, and nuanced geopolitical context to events like Berlin's final days, the Eastern Front, and Allied campaigns. Noteworthy are the strong bookish guests, serious analytical tone, and the willingness to explore less-publicized angles within well-known conflicts. The format tends to combine biography, military strategy, and material culture (e.g., camouflage tactics, pilot training simulators) to illuminate how WWII shaped modern history.
