  • Puzzled

I really enjoy this podcast. The hosts present well and it’s a pleasure to listen to while I sew. I was thrown a bit by a podcast looking to illuminate Asian sewists calling out a shopper as “a Boomer”. If I said some Asian lady tried to buy a half yard of fabric at Joann’s closing sale, would you assume she was a regular shopper and didn’t know she couldn’t buy as she normally would or that she’s doing that because she is Asian? Do we need another unnuanced category for people? I’ll continue to... more

  • Obsessed!

The content on this podcast is so good. Having just discovered this podcast a few months ago, I would binge-listen to the episodes and some of them I go back to to relisten. My favorites are the Zero Waste episode, and ones that speak to racial, environmental and social justices. Thankful to the Asian Sewist Collective for representing Asian voices and doing so in such a responsible and beautiful way. I learned so much about how to be a better sewist (and human!). Can’t wait to listen to all the... more

  • My fave sewing podcast!

Tough competition but I would have to say this is my favourite sewing podcast. Perfect level of detail, good balance between casual and professional. I really appreciate the amount of work that goes into these episodes, and I appreciate the education you give me as a white sewist. Thank you so much!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Plus Size Patternmaking for Womenswear with Leila Kelleher (@leila_sews)
Q: How is the book organized for different users (students vs. home sewists)?
About half the book covers principles like body measurement and body language in sewing, while the other half walks through drafting blocks and a capsule of garments that can be made from those blocks, with clear steps and many diagrams to accommodate different learning paths.
Plus Size Patternmaking for Womenswear with Leila Kelleher (@leila_sews)
Q: What is the book about and who is it for?
It's about inclusive sizing, pattern drafting, and fitting for plus-size garments, aimed at fashion students and industry professionals, with a strong secondary audience of home sewers seeking practical drafting skills.
Fabric Shopping in India with Nandita (@divinedita)
Q: Is there anything you feel like you wish you got to see more of on this trip?
If I had another two weeks, I would have liked to stay for Ganesh Chaturthi, as it's one of our biggest holidays in Mumbai.
Fabric Shopping in India with Nandita (@divinedita)
Q: Can you please share Nandita a little bit about your Asian heritage and how it inspires your sewing?
I grew up in a Marathi-speaking household, and every few years, my family would take us back to India... These experiences have greatly influenced my love for textiles and sewing.
A Conversation with Yaya Han Part 2
Q: With your presence on social media and social media kind of changing throughout your career and cosplay, how has social media changed both the ways that you keep on top of trends and run your business?
Social media is a double-edged sword that complicates interactions in cosplay but also spreads DIY knowledge; I've aimed to balance growth without being consumed.
