  • Long time listener - who gave it a break as topics were uninteresting - only to come back & I can't get past the amount of virtue signalling. Sadly I think I'm unsubscribing. Not everything needs to be politicised, can't we just talk about sewing?

  • New sewing friends that I don’t know

I feel like an insider to their conversations but I’m still apart of them. I don’t know them but if we ever meet, it’s going to feel weird feeling like a stranger because I’ve been brought into their lives! I really enjoy the variety of content and the insights they provide as professionals. I would consider myself an adventuresome experienced novice and knowing that other people mess up too is reassuring. I was even sewing and thinking about intentionally skipping a step when they were talking ... more

  • My favourite ever podcast!

Just the absolute best podcast for sewists. I’ve learned so much by listening to Caroline and Helen and every episode gives me such a boost of sew-jo.

  • Poor execution

Interesting topics (that are wedged in between nonsense like The Bachelor) but the nonstop giggling, the childish use of the word “like” before every word and the California girl singsongy cadence is so distracting that the content is lost. Could be a great show if hosted by professional adults.

  • We’re so different…but I love you!

I love this podcast! I follow and regularly listen to about 15 sewing and textile podcasts but this is the one I couldn’t do without. I have almost diametrically opposite tastes to Helen and Caroline - I loved the Modern Socialite style most of all the Spring trends; I love neutrals and hardly ever wear prints; I hate seventies styles; when it comes to Patreon - I don’t go near gaming or board games and I watch very little TV (won’t forget Helen saying she didn’t trust people who didn’t like wat... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 283: Hemp
Q: Why wouldn't you just do the seams with the serger and skip that step?
Using a serger for seams in woven fabrics can lead to difficulties in unpicking and does not give as strong a seam as traditional sewing.
Episode 280: Ease
Q: Is it possible to blend that many sizes?
Yes, but grading between sizes works best for one to three sizes; beyond that, it’s better to use pattern adjustments.
Episode 281: Historical Costuming with Christine Millar
Q: What advice would you give to our listeners who are interested in starting to sew historical costumes?
Start by working on parts that inspire you and don't be afraid to start small or big.
Episode 281: Historical Costuming with Christine Millar
Q: What is your favorite part of making historical costumes?
The moment of putting the dress on the dress form and seeing the design come together is Christine's favorite.
Episode 281: Historical Costuming with Christine Millar
Q: How and when did you learn how to sew?
Christine learned to sew from her mother at the age of five and was encouraged to pursue it despite early discouragement.
