  • I’ll pass.

Too snarky. Too familiar. Too willing to shill. Then adding a person from a failed pod isn’t a great move.

  • Lesley Goldberg is back!

I began listening to The Ankler Podcast a few months ago and enjoyed it enough to listen to it occasionally. However, when I heard Lesley Goldberg had resurfaced after TV’s Top Five, I was stoked to hear her on the Ankler. Now, I never miss a show & always look forward to when the next episode drops because of Lesley. She’s a great reporter, sharp as a tack, funny, compassionate & ran my favorite podcast. The Ankler scored when they brought in Lesley.

  • Positively delightful!

The Ankler is my favorite podcast about the film/TV industry. I love the 360-degree view from all the hosts, and the humor. Every week I laugh out loud. I especially enjoyed Richard's episodes about the 90s. I only wish The Ankler came out twice a week (or more)!

BONUS EP: The TV Chiefs Who See Microdramas As the Future
Q: What do you see as the open opportunities in this new space for new talent and new writers?
The format allows discovering fresh writers directly out of school, reducing barriers to entry, and enabling a pipeline from creator to audience; it also emphasizes mentorship and hands-on development to launch careers outside traditional paths.
BONUS EP: The TV Chiefs Who See Microdramas As the Future
Q: What was it like to shift from the legacy TV business to micro-dramas and verticals, and was it scary or the right direction?
It was a thoughtful, iterative move guided by a belief that you can still tell great stories, adapt to new platforms, and find opportunities by aligning passions with evolving distribution methods; it required letting go of old precedents and embracing a more hands-on, fast-paced, small-team approach.
The Merger Drama That Won’t Stay in Vegas
Q: So the New Writers Guild deal came together a lot more quickly than people expected after just weeks. Walk us through how you got there.
John August outlines three core priorities: stabilize the health fund, defend AI protections from 2023, and build on earlier gains for writers, which together enabled securing a four-year deal with substantial health funding and structural protections. He also notes the quieter, more press-free environment facilitated focusing on substantive issues, and explains the negotiation dynamics, including the need to address extended health coverage and free-work protections.
BONUS EP: ‘Silicon Valley’ Creators: Tech Bros ‘Don’t Give a Flying F--- About Humanity’
Q: Would you consider an open-source ending or something equally radical for today's tech landscape?
They discussed alternatives like an open-source open-ended ending but found it too idealistic; ultimately they preferred a conclusion where the protagonists achieve massive impact without fully compromising ethics.
BONUS EP: ‘Silicon Valley’ Creators: Tech Bros ‘Don’t Give a Flying F--- About Humanity’
Q: Looking back, how did access to tech insiders evolve from season one to later seasons?
Access grew significantly after the show aired; initial tours were guarded, but later industry insiders and execs shared more stories, giving the series a more authentic feel and enabling plausible plotlines.
