Whew. Making a script great doesn't cost any money? Gut punch. Literally took my breath away. Glad they're having fun, I guess.

  • I’ll pass.

Too snarky. Too familiar. Too willing to shill. Then adding a person from a failed pod isn’t a great move.

  • Lesley Goldberg is back!

I began listening to The Ankler Podcast a few months ago and enjoyed it enough to listen to it occasionally. However, when I heard Lesley Goldberg had resurfaced after TV’s Top Five, I was stoked to hear her on the Ankler. Now, I never miss a show & always look forward to when the next episode drops because of Lesley. She’s a great reporter, sharp as a tack, funny, compassionate & ran my favorite podcast. The Ankler scored when they brought in Lesley.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Private Equity Has Billions Ready for Hollywood. Who Gets It?
Q: What makes PE investments in entertainment potentially risky or rewarding?
The reward comes from growth and new capital enabling more content, but the risk is creating pressure to scale quickly, potentially at the cost of long-term stability if the growth plan isn't well-structured or well-executed.
Private Equity Has Billions Ready for Hollywood. Who Gets It?
Q: What does it mean for Hollywood when you take on PE money and what are the typical expectations?
It means there's outside oversight and often more debt; there's a clock on the money, so growth plans or cost-cutting strategies are driven by the aim to deliver strong returns within a few years, shaping decisions about spend and strategy.
Private Equity Has Billions Ready for Hollywood. Who Gets It?
Q: Ashley, walk us through the basics of private equity money.
Private equity is ownership in a company that is not public, financed by outside money often sourced from pension plans and endowments, with the goal of earning roughly 18-20% returns annually, which puts pressure on the portfolio companies to perform.
BONUS EP: California AG Rob Bonta on the Coming Paramount Trial: 'We're Not Talking Settlement'
Q: Could there be settlement discussions, or is the goal to proceed with a full trial?
Settlement discussions are not the focus; the goal is to advance to a trial with a single date and robust discovery, so the remedies address the underlying antitrust concerns rather than a negotiated settlement.
BONUS EP: California AG Rob Bonta on the Coming Paramount Trial: 'We're Not Talking Settlement'
Q: What does this milestone mean for the overall case and timeline going forward?
It signifies a substantial delay to the merger, preserving competition while the court reviews the case, with a clear path toward a potential trial date and deadlines, rather than permitting the deal to close during litigation.
