  • Huge disappointment and missed opportunity

    1. On the level of substance, Cass and American Compass have interesting perspectives. They are center-right, and the opportunity to unite with the center-left (and progressives) to explore significant common ground and bold ideas is as necessary as it is obvious. Yet Cass and Compass remain oddly and irresponsibly unwilling to disavow the disaster of Trump, and they continue to support ideologues and Trump-era sycophants like JD Vance. It’s bizarre.

    2. On the level of personal appeal, Cass co... more

  • Not just problems but also solutions.

There is not shortage of Conservative or Populist podcasters who will point out the problems in America.

This is one of the few Podcasts that provides fleshed out proposals to fix the mess that we find ourselves in.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Why Democrats Can't Learn with Ruy Teixeira
Q: Where does the Democratic Party go from here after the 2024 defeat?
The guest suggests that without acknowledging misalignments with working-class voters and addressing long-term structural issues, the party risks stagnation and continued electoral reversals; reform efforts like The Liberal Patriot faced donor withdrawal, indicating the difficulty of achieving mass alignment without broad popular appeal.
America's Foreign Policy Future with A. Wess Mitchell
Q: How should the Iran situation be managed within consolidation?
The guest suggests a limited, phased approach with diplomacy and limited military actions to contain escalation, ultimately seeking a regional balance of power where onshore allies are empowered and U.S. resources focus on core priorities like the Indo-Pacific and Western Hemisphere.
America's Foreign Policy Future with A. Wess Mitchell
Q: What should consolidation aim to achieve in the long run?
The aim is to consolidate toward a posture that prevents a single Eurasian hegemon, preserves essential U.S. interests, and allows for a sustainable, durable international engagement centered on national welfare and prudent alliance usage.
America's Foreign Policy Future with A. Wess Mitchell
Q: Could you lay out your framework for thinking about the debates on the right and where consolidation fits in?
Mitchell describes a spectrum from hawkish expansion to retrenchment, then argues for a consolidation approach: reduce overextension, rebuild domestic strength, and pursue a circumscribed, alliance-centered foreign policy that avoids perpetual wars while maintaining influence.
Want to End Illegal Immigration? Hire American, with Daniel Kishi
Q: Where are we with the H-1B program and what are the key flaws you see?
The program is hindered by design flaws: lack of a true labor-market test, a wage structure that creates incentives to hire foreign workers at below-market rates, and a lottery system that awards petitions irrespective of merit. These issues undermine domestic training incentives and can depress wages for entry-level American workers. Reform ideas include tightening the wage tiers, prioritizing merit-based qualifications, and imposing higher costs to reflect program costs.
