I don’t understand why they let a Scotsman filibuster conversations on the American character. All he does is troll the other speakers. Don’t believe me? Listen to how fluidly he changes from “we” meaning the British and “we” meaning the Americans depending on whose goat he’s trying to get. He makes it nearly unlistenable. Predictably liberal, milquetoast neocon “conservatism” from Hoover. That is not without its merits to be sure, but the programme would benefit from the inclusion of a paleoconservative as well. Each American intellectual tradition complements and fortifies the other, from my admittedly limited British viewpoint. In its absence, the show often feels like old age pensioners rehearsing warmed-over neoconservative talking points.
