  • Glorified sword polishers

Thoughtful, incisive and thorough analysis from accomplished men . If you can excuse their sheer ignorance of the heinous crimes committed by their paymasters then enjoy feeling like history is on your side . Like sliding down the sleazy pole of a MAGA politics.

  • America doesn't want amnesty. Those who have, or are related to, those who have immigrated (and later naturalized) through the legal immigration process (which involves many many years and not a small amount of money) are opposed to rewarding illegal aliens for violating the immigration laws that have been followed by millions of legal immigrants.

  • Tyler Cowen episode

    Great discussion as ever.

Tyler Cowen’s profile of Trump was spot on. Very unusually Sir Niall seemed a little rattled.

  • Smugness and condescension abounding

While some of the guests on this show, such as Frank Dikotter and Stephen Kotkin, are well worth listening to, two of the three main protagonists are conceited bores (John Cochran, HR McMaster) while even Niall Ferguson, who could never be accused of being dull, is in full Quisling mode, sucking up to his American paymasters and sneering at his fellow Europeans. A small and suffocating right-wing echo chamber with little compassion or imagination in evidence.

Q: What do you think Washington does differently if the market goes drastically south in 2026?
Look, I think if the market goes drastically south, you'll see the Dems who are in the House. I don't think the Dems, even if the market goes drastically south, I'm not sure they win the Senate.

Q: Were you thinking to yourself, hang on, this is actually more familiar, this is more 2020s than I was expecting when I set out to write the book?
Oh goodness, way more. I mean, I think you and I spoke about this project probably close to a decade ago when I first started thinking about it.
