  • Great Discussions

As a parish pastor, 31 years removed from my seminary days, Tangible stimulates my thought and study and personally edifies me. I am grateful to God for the opportunity to learn from the Concordia faculty in this podcast. Jessica also does an excellent job of moderating the discussions with a view to making them helpful for lay listeners. Thank you!

  • Uplifting Podcast

Tangible has become my favorite religious podcast. These days it seems like the Missouri Synod’s primary concern is fighting the culture wars. (Though maybe that’s a sign of me taking in too much social media.) The focus of Tangible is how we can live out our beliefs and bring the love of Christ to our neighbors, without worrying about winning arguments. The conversational format is inviting. It makes me feel like I’m sitting down with extended family, even if I can’t offer my two cents into the... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Educational Theory and the Trivium - Dr. Jason Lane and Dr. Adam Hensley
Q: Can you summarize how the Trivium applies to seminary education today?
The Trivium provides a framework to teach students how to read, understand, and articulate theological ideas clearly, starting with language (grammar), moving to analysis (logic), and finishing with expression (rhetoric), all while slowing down to listen to the Word of God.
Advent Poetry – Dr. Tim Saleska and Dr. David Schmitt
Q: How does Denise Levertov's On the Mystery of the Incarnation contribute to understanding the incarnation?
It centers on the moment of revelation and the creation of awe by showing how God entrusts the Word to humanity, inviting reflection on human sin and divine mercy rather than sensationalizing the miracle.
Christ Speaks the Psalms – Dr. Adam Hensley
Q: What does it mean that Christ voices the Psalms?
It means the Psalms are not just human prayers but fulfilled in Christ; he embodies the perfect king and intercedes for us, so when we pray them we join our voices with his and with the whole body of believers.
Emotional Intelligence - Dr. Rick Marrs and Dr. Mark Rockenbach
Q: Dr. Marrs, as a licensed psychologist, counselor and pastor, you've worked with a lot of people. Can you tell me more about the way that emotional intelligence would be a factor in the way that they interact with other people?
Emotional intelligence shapes how pastors and church workers listen, understand, and respond to others; it complements theological knowledge by ensuring care is persuasive and relational, not just doctrinal.
Family Discipleship
Q: What do you want listeners to remember from today's discussion?
Christ is the one doing the work of raising up disciples; the church is called to baptize and teach, and faith is cultivated daily within the home and congregation as we forgive, grow in Christ, and pass these habits to the next generation.
