  • Worth a Listen (or 2)

Absolutely love listening to Jay and his guests. The questions are well thought out and that leads to engaging conversations. Most episodes require a second listen as there is so much to take in. Jay has a way of connecting with his guests that is authentic and brings out vulnerability in others. The themes covered means there is something in here for everyone.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep 196 - Dan Vann - From Coaching to Mental Skills
Q: Yeah. What was your experience like in terms of, as an athlete, as a young athlete of coaching, whether that be rugby or cricket, what was your experience as an athlete as a coach, and then your early experiences as a coach, how different were you now to then?
Dan explains that his early coaching was outcome-focused and harsher, with benching and pressure creating stress; over time he moved toward development-first approaches, prioritizing opportunities for growth and mental skills, which dramatically improved both his coaching style and athlete outcomes.
Ep 191 - From Anxiety to Acceptance: Dr. Raymond Prior's Guide to Performance
Q: How can coaches and parents support younger players to develop acceptance and reduce fear of failure?
By avoiding judgmental language, praising effort and decision-making rather than inherent ability, and creating environments where trying and failing is acceptable, which builds resilience and a sustainable ability to perform under pressure.
Ep 191 - From Anxiety to Acceptance: Dr. Raymond Prior's Guide to Performance
Q: Can you explain the concept of stable confidence and how it differs from traditional notions of confidence?
Stable confidence is the self-generated permission to perform freely, independent of outcomes or external validation, which contrasts with traditional views that tie confidence to predicting future success or achieving specific results.
Ep 192 - Nick Voke - What Playing Free Actually Looks Like (From YouTube to Tour Golf)
Q: What would you say to a young player who is successful but miserable?
Nick would ask them whether they truly enjoy being out there and remind them that long-term fulfillment may require adjusting expectations and seeking balance beyond golf.
Ep 192 - Nick Voke - What Playing Free Actually Looks Like (From YouTube to Tour Golf)
Q: Is that easy when it's going well?
Nick explains that having 15 years of hard work gives him freedom to play freely, but acknowledges the ongoing internal balance and the reality of occasional tough stretches.
