Major challenges included right-sided weakness, dysarthria, and loss of independence; coping involved ongoing therapy, pacing, setting boundaries, and leaning on family for support while adjusting goals and expectations.

Q: Describe the first hours after you got to the emergency room and how they knew you were having a stroke.
Emergency imaging and CT scans identified the hemorrhage; angiography later confirmed the AVM as the underlying issue, and treatment began with urgent procedures to relieve pressure and stop the bleed.

Q: I know you said you had migraines for years, but then you started having thunderclap headaches. Looking back, what do you remember and when did you realize something was very different?
The thunderclap headaches occurred suddenly, mainly during work or screen time, and were much more intense than migraines; they signaled a serious issue and led to hospital admission.

She details the loss of independence and career in travel management, the emotional impact of stepping away, and how writing and eventual advocacy became new sources of purpose.

Her friend immediately recognized something serious, called 911, and preserved Stefannie's safety by turning her onto her side to prevent aspiration and arranging hospital transport.
