  • Interesting guests and themes

Recently started listening on my commute, and I really like the genres it sticks to, as well as the host having insightful commentary. I only wish the audio were a bit better. I try to listen to this when commuting and have to crank up the volume all the way because the audio is more soft than other podcasts. Perfect for in the house but maybe not on the road.

  • A podcast that will take over your TBR stack 🖤🖤🖤🖤

Agatha is absolutely wonderful. I’ve been listening to this podcast for a couple of years now, and realized I haven’t posted a raving a review. Her interviews are thoughtful, entertaining, and every time I finish an episode I have a smile on my face, and a book to add to my list of TBR. Beyond book stacks she explores important issues such as literacy, critical thinking, and how it impacts our daily lives. Her love of the library is infectious. And her joy in the genres that she is in offers you... more

E205: Black Witches in Fiction with Savannah Stephens
Q: Can you introduce yourself and tell us what Witch Queen Rising is about?
Savannah explains she's an adult speculative fiction author who writes paranormal and dark fantasy, and Witch Queen Rising is a dark southern gothic fantasy with horror elements set in New Orleans, involving a witch who must embrace her powers.
E200: Horror Comics with Nat Cassidy
Q: Why are graphic novels a strong medium for horror, according to Nat?
Cassidy argues that the visual language, panel layout, and the ability to control pacing through page turns offer a sublime way to deliver scares and atmosphere that prose alone can't replicate.
E200: Horror Comics with Nat Cassidy
Q: What was Nat Cassidy's gateway into horror comics?
Nat discusses growing up with gothic and horror-adjacent media, his brother's collections, and Vertigo as a pivotal catalyst, which helped him fall in love with the art and storytelling of horror comics.
E199: Icon of Gay Gothic Romance - Vincent Virga
Q: I want to go back a little bit because you've covered some really fascinating things that I think are going to be interesting to fans of Gothic and Gothic romance. Could you share more about the initial challenges in getting Gaywyck published and the decision to keep the original title?
Publishers rejected the manuscript many times before Avon picked it up; the editor Gwen Adelman and then Bob Wyatt finally embraced the work, recognizing its unique satirical framing and the potential to redefine gay romance within Gothic conventions, which also led to keeping the original title that cleverly nods to Dragonwyck.
