Brennan LaFaro on The Denizens
Q: What can folks expect from you this year? Do you have any book events that you're attending? Any short stories or anything else we should be on the lookout for in 2026?
I'll be doing events mostly in New England, including Spooktastic Book Fair in Massachusetts and Merrimack Halloween Book Festival, plus appearances related to a horror Western anthology and other anthology projects; there are also a couple of longer works in progress and a Choose Your Own Adventure entry in a Slattery Falls universe, plus a novella and short stories in development.
Brennan LaFaro on The Denizens
Q: But how did that, like, where did it begin for you? Where did this story begin for you? What was the nexus for, and was it Sam's story that spoke to you, or was it the grand idea?
The Denizens began in 2021 as a draft that focused on Sam's story, influenced by Stephen King and Salem's Lot; it evolved from interconnected short stories into a full novel, with Sam's grief and the small town setting driving the plot and the rules of the world expanding as the town itself reveals its dark heart.
Chris Panatier and Mitch Hull on Daytide
Q: Is there a path forward for more Daytide-related stories in the same world?
There could be, but only if there's a strong, natural reason to expand the world, with a clear angle and a compelling plot that fits the established setup.
Philip Fracassi on The Autumn Springs Retirement Home Massacre
Q: What was your approach to outlining and ending the story, given you didn't outline this one in advance?
I let the characters guide me; I eventually figured out the ending in the last stretch of writing, with careful rewrites to ensure everything tied together, balancing red herrings with a coherent conclusion.
Philip Fracassi on The Autumn Springs Retirement Home Massacre
Q: How did Rose become such a fully formed character, and what did she bring to the story?
Rose arrived fully formed and allowed me to explore internal life and perspectives that contrast with the fear of the killer, giving the book a strong emotional core and driving much of the plot's decisions.
