  • Love this program & deeply respect Fr. Mitch

I enjoy listening to whatever program Fr. Mitch is hosting. I have learned so much under his teaching—I wish I had had the opportunity to have him as a professor in college! He would be among my all-time favorites, for sure! Highly recommend anything and everything he does. He has written several books ( I own about 10 of them thus far!). I appreciate how open and direct and transparent he is. It’s just nice to listen to Fr. Mitch—his wisdom, knowledge, humor, and obvious love for the unadultera... more

  • Far-right priest

I have listened to Father Mitch many times and found his teachings so informative. The man knows his Bible. But I am always turned off by his far-right views which leak into his program. He really would have felt comfortable supporting fascism under Hitler during WWII. Even on his November 17th telecast he mentioned how the communism of Russia, China and North Korea caused more deaths than the present pandemic, saying it mostly only affects the elderly. He never mentioned Hitler’s murder of at l... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Commentary on Isaiah, Pt. 57
Q: John asks how Catholics view the additional books from the Eastern Orthodox tradition like First Esdras and Third Maccabees compared to the Deuterocanonical books.
Catholics view these books similarly to the Protestant Deuterocanon—acknowledged and used in tradition, but not read in the liturgy in many contexts, and not treated as part of the divinely closed canon in the same way as the protocanonical books.
Commentary on Isaiah, Pt. 57
Q: I was thinking about the tools that I have when I pray. I have Mary, I have Jesus, and I have the Holy Spirit. What was their strength in the Old Testament, and where did they get their support?
The Holy Spirit was at work with them, they had community support and liturgical rhythm to sustain them, and over time, they understood spiritual support through prayer and psalms, which set a framework for faith.
Commentary on Isaiah, Pt. 56
Q: Why did they need to receive the Holy Spirit again at Pentecost if they already received them from Jesus?
Different depths of receiving the Holy Spirit occur as believers grow in faith; initial breath of the Spirit granted forgiveness and authority, while later events (Pentecost) impart empowerment and courage for mission.
Commentary on Isaiah, Pt. 56
Q: Why is it so hard to be good?
Holiness is difficult because of the inherited disruption of sanctifying grace from original sin, compounded by internal desires and habitual patterns; growth involves honestly examining one's motives, changing ingrained grooves, and relying on grace and ongoing conversion.
Commentary on Isaiah, Pt. 54
Q: Is there some kind of connection between Isaiah saying, the Spirit of the Lord is upon me and the Samaritan woman at the well with Jesus?
Yes, there's a connection; it reflects God's ongoing theme of liberation and identity in the context of salvation and service to others.
