Reflex arcs, lower motor neurones, upper motor neurones, the cerebellum, basal ganglia, the frontal cortex and even decussations get a mention.
We cover the neuroanatomy, and a little neuroscience, of how pain is perceived by the brain and how analgesics and the brain itself can modify this.
Phil and Sam talk about the anatomy of the autonomic nervous system, the neurotransmitters involved and pharmacological targets.
Phil tries to teach Sam about neurotransmitters and how they work. We work through a list of the main neurotransmitters and give an overview of their functions.
Phil tells Sam why his weight is fairly stable, what happens in his brain when he gets hungry and what changes when he has eaten. We talk about the adipostat, leptin, ghrelin and obesity, why we choose particular foods and how dopamine, opioids and (... more
Phil describes the electrochemical nature of action potentials, the different phases and how a neuron transmits a signal along its length and from neuron to neuron.
Disappointed, they didn’t do more of them.
I’m just starting to study neuroscience and would love to hear more.
Amazing podcast, very informative and I’m not even a student and I love this series very interesting and how Dr phill puts things across in a great manner and explains how processes work and gives examples brilliantly
This has given me the get up and go to learn more about this topic
Keep up the great work and please please more n more topics I’m all caught up on the podcasts need more from you 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Love these guys
I love this podcast! There’s soo much information available and it’s conveyed beautifully. I’m soo happy you finally put out another podcast, hopefully won’t have to wait 7/8 years for the next (;.
I personally like how Dr. Sam Webster can be ‘uninterested’ or has forgotten some of the content, as it relates to how some students may feel in a lecture, or even how I felt myself throughout sometimes.
The information in this podcast is clear and well presented by Dr. Newton, but I cannot bear to listen to Sam Webster behave as though he is barely awake and somewhat disinterested in subject matter I care very much about and am trying to learn. For example during the podcast on addiction, Dr. Newton asks him a simple question like, “Do you remember nicotine?” and he acts as though he might have remembered something about nicotine but his foggy half-awake state it is difficult to recall anything... more
Great stuff. Really, really well presented and informative. More please!!
I love this and would suggest everyone listen to them! Even if you don't do there.
Better to go faster
I absolutely enjoyed this podcast! It was extremely delightful, as well as enlightening. To hear the normalcy of their conversation about action potentials was for once, for me, highly entertaining to have partaken in. The light hearted humor incorporated with a complex topic of neuroscience kept me wanting to hear more. Learning it over through his perspective was fun for me. Thanks!!!
Great way to review after introductory neuroscience lectures. And fun to listen to :)
Where's the rest guys?
This is awesome. It's so difficult to find great generalizations of complex ideas-especially within Neuroscience. Thank you so much for these podcasts! Would love to see more from you guys!
I appreciate you!
I'm an undergraduate student studying neuroscience and this is a really nice review podcast for me. I know you guys are probably not happy with the lack of an audience you're getting, but you should know that this is one of the best if not the best neuroscience podcast on itunes. You are both funny and review neuroscience material at a resonable pace. I really look forward to listening to the movement/dopamine podcast during my commute in the future. -Jordan
I LOVE the podcasts, they're really helpful. Thanks so much for producing them and please make more!
