This was fascinating and very sad to listen to - I’m not from Canada and hadn’t heard survivors themselves talk about their experiences in the “schools” (if you can call them that) before. They were very brave to talk so publicly about the trauma they experienced.
The podcast was well produced and I am glad I listened to it. However given how short each episode is it would’ve been nice if less time could have been taken up by adverts for other shows etc.
Listening to these first hand accounts is truly heartbreaking, but it is important to remember.
This short, but powerful series deals with difficult issues, but is very worth the listen. For someone like me, (not Canadian), the recent discovery of unmarked graves in residential schools needed context. Found a good start here. White supremacy is not unique to any one Western country. Thank you for the series. A good stepping stone in my education to understand and hopefully contribute to dismantling white supremacy.
Worth a listen for a basic level of knowledge and to hear the testimonies from survivors. There is too much focus on what Canada is doing now to help. These were concentration camps and some of the language used to to describe doesn’t feel strong enough. They didn’t die of all of these horrible acts committed against them. They were murdered.
This podcast is both amazingly informative and absolutely heartbreaking. Thank you for giving a voice to survivors. Their story’s need to be told and herd by all Canadians
