  • Excellent Real Talk

As a former teacher, principal, and district administrator, I really appreciate the frank discussions on equity and EVERYTHING it entails in this first podcast. At the same time, it revealed to me how much more I could have done to help increase the likelihood of equity being the norm with all edu... more

Partners in Practice: Co-Teaching at Every Stage of Instruction
Q: Why did you think a book about co-teaching was needed in the education world?
The core answer is that co-teaching is widespread but often implemented without a coherent system, shared standards, or collaborative planning, which prevents it from reaching all students effectively. The book argues for a comprehensive, intentional approach that involves pre-instruction planning, shared understanding of outcomes, and leadership support to sustain high-quality co-teaching.
Critical Question 4 – How Do We Extend Learning for Students Who Have Already Mastered the Intended Outcomes?
Q: What advice do you have for educators on using pre-assessment effectively?
Teachers need to be clear about the essential standards and use targeted, efficient methods for assessing students.
Critical Question 4 – How Do We Extend Learning for Students Who Have Already Mastered the Intended Outcomes?
Q: What is it about question four that makes it difficult for schools?
It often comes down to time, priorities, and know-how.
The Collaborative IEP
Q: If you could change one thing about how schools approach IEPs, what would it be?
I would want everybody to really see that all students have strengths and weaknesses and that it is crucial to acknowledge their potential.
Critical Question 3- How Will We Respond When They Haven’t Learned?
Q: What do you suggest is the first step for schools facing challenges in RTI?
Strengthen professional learning community work at the team level and build a shared understanding of essential standards.
