  • Political Establishment Swill

If you want to know what the media and political establishment think this is a decent listen. Don’t expect too many alternative views that are an affront to moneyed interests aside from the occasional visit from someone like Teri or Jalen.

Keep yappin’, I guess. It’s useful for us to know what you’re thinking

  • Enjoy the politics but wish the cast had more diversity

I really enjoy listening to the podcast but wish there were more female voices on the show. I’m not a super regular listener but I rarely hear female perspectives during each episode. You would think the Express News would have made this a priority.

Otherwise I enjoy the discussion and helps keep me up to date on what’s going in SA.

  • If you’re into local politics...

And you’re not already listening to this, you’re not actually into local politics.

This podcast has extensive coverage of San Antonio and Central Texas’ most pressing political stories. With Gilbert Garcia at the helm, and reoccurring regulars including reporters, editorial board members and miscellaneous untitled staff (ie. Brian Chasnoff — what does he actually do at the SAE-N??) the facts are accurate even if you don’t always agree with the POV.

Honestly the biggest mystery is how Texas ... more

  • SA Politics

This is a great addition to the Express News’s podcast lineup. Gilbert and his regular guests are reporters and columnists covering politics and stories of political import in the San Antonio and South Texas area. I really like that the conversational format allows them to go into greater depth and detail on their stories.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Nirenberg-Sakai face-off for Bexar County Judge by the numbers | ENside Politics
Q: How might voters react to public financing and the Spurs arena negotiations as this race unfolds?
Public opinion is expected to influence city-county negotiations, with voters potentially pressuring officials over bonds and infrastructure costs, and shaping how aggressively politicians pursue compromises in the arena project.
The Nirenberg-Sakai face-off for Bexar County Judge by the numbers | ENside Politics
Q: What do the poll numbers say about incumbency versus the challenger, and how does name recognition affect the race for county judge?
Name recognition for Sakai has historically trailed Nirenberg, but many voters still sit in a neutral or unsure category. Incumbency advantages exist but aren't guaranteed here due to lower salience of the county judge role and strong name recognition for the challenger.
The Nirenberg-Sakai face-off for Bexar County Judge by the numbers | ENside Politics
Q: So you're curious about when the next public poll will come out and whether it can be released before early voting starts.
The polling center aims to release a high-quality poll if the workload and timeline permit, but there are concerns about timing given other priorities and commitments, so they may delay until they can ensure accuracy and impact before early voting.
Jalen McKee-Rodriguez talks censure of Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones | ENside Politics
Q: What was your personal reasoning for voting yes on the censure resolution?
I balanced a difficult mix of personal respect for the mayor with a responsibility to uphold conduct standards and the belief that this action, while painful, could lead to a more collaborative and trustworthy council later.
Can council stop a rumored ICE facility coming to S.A.? | ENside Politics
Q: What's the path forward for the Bonham Exchange and similar venues?
The plan is to extend time through a formal compliance framework, support fundraising efforts, and require concrete safety improvements, while keeping a hard line on occupancy numbers to ensure safety and financial viability.
