  • Great Insights & Tactics to Create Successful Contractors

The APB Podcast is an incredible resource for builders and business owners in the construction industry. Each episode dives into practical strategies while also tackling the bigger picture of leadership, growth, and building a values-driven company. I recently had the privilege of being a guest on the show, and the experience gave me an even deeper appreciation for how intentional the conversations are. Will has a real gift for asking the right questions and drawing out lessons that anyone can a... more

  • Great for testimonials for APB, weak on content.

As a custom home builder I follow and have been listening to several podcasts from different coaching organizations and builder focused podcasts. I’ve listened to nearly a dozen or so episodes now and most are just long form testimonials for APB. That’s great idea for the last few minutes of an episode but not the majority. As a builder I’ve learned a lot from podcasts, Matt Risinger, and many others and had high hopes for this podcast. In the last few months I met with coaches from several orga... more

  • Excellent Content! Looking forward to the new episodes

This podcast has great dialogue that would benefit anyone navigating the mysteries of a small to medium size startup. There are little nuggets throughout each episode and I would recommend this for not only my builder friends but any entrepreneur. Well done!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

240. Beyond The Bare Minimum With Jessica Kismet
Q: So from a builder's perspective, what's the first step to incorporating this into their business?
Start with airtightness testing as a foundational learning, align the team early, and ensure architects, builders, and trades understand why the membrane and detailing choices matter, so collaboration is established from the outset.
238. Great Work Isn't Enough With Carl Edwards and Annameika Curtis
Q: Carl, how have margins changed as you invested in marketing and built a more predictable pipeline?
With more marketing, we could be selective about the projects we pursue and maintain higher margins, instead of taking any job just to keep things moving.
230. Are Builders Actually Profitable With Russ Stephens & Sarah Biben
Q: What numbers are most important to understand profitability from a project and company perspective?
Do the WIP calculation monthly, keep fixed expenses up to date, ensure you lock month end within 7–10 days, and monitor both job-level margins and company-level expenses to avoid misreporting.
230. Are Builders Actually Profitable With Russ Stephens & Sarah Biben
Q: How do you structure yourself to be prepared for non-billables and still stay profitable?
Calculate fixed expenses for the year, determine how many jobs you can run concurrently, and apply those figures as an admin charge on cost‑plus contracts; generally, fixed price pricing tends to be more profitable. Build in admin costs monthly and consider exceptions for very large projects.
231. Small Changes, Big Results With Owen Gardner
Q: What is the most important lesson for builders aiming to scale safely?
Understand and drill down on your numbers, hire the right people, and invest in coaching or external perspectives to continuously improve incremental processes rather than chasing quick fixes.
