  • Disappointed

I was so disappointed in the episode today. The host agreed heartily with his guest when he proclaimed the progression of charisma character and competence. This is definitely true if marketing is church growth. But that leaves the vast majority of pastors being told they are Incompetent and that’s why their church isn’t growing. It’s your fault. Perhaps there is room to see that God is the author of church growth and that small churches are not bad things. Many mega church pastors have been in... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Building a Caring Community with Shaunti Feldhahn
Q: Can you explain The Church Cares Initiative and how it changes the pastor's workload?
It creates a three-tier triangle of care—pastors, trained helpers, and lay volunteers—so pastors aren't the sole frontline for every issue, enabling scalable, compassionate care across the congregation.
Boundaries, Burnout, & Bearing Burdens with Dr. John Townsend
Q: Define for us boundaries in the simplest of terms.
Boundaries are like a property line around your life where you guard what enters your heart, time, and energy, so you can stay healthy and effective; it involves both saying no and recruiting others to help, so you can serve without being overwhelmed.
Escaping Self-Centeredness with Ryan Wekenman
Q: What caused you to write this book?
Ryan explains that he wrote Free Me From Me to address his own struggle with being the center of the message and to provide a practical guide for ministry leaders to shift focus from themselves to God and others.
Faithful & Fruitful: Building People, Not Platforms with Jared Ellis
Q: What impact did infertility have on your ministry and how did you navigate it publicly?
We chose transparency and emphasized that purpose and love for family can coexist with still pursuing God's plan; the community's support and a broader sense of calling helped sustain us.
Faithful & Fruitful: Building People, Not Platforms with Jared Ellis
Q: What role does social media play in your ministry and what cautions do you give to others starting out?
Post with the motive of helping people, not impressing others; stay faithful to your local flock and use online presence to serve them, not replace real community; consistency and humility matter more than virality.
