  • Bible-focused, thought-provoking, and earnest

Bill Schlegel and others review the Bible verses and passages that are often used to support belief in a triune God. The podcast offers alternative ways of understanding these passages by focusing on the meaning of individual terms, the relationship of verses to the immediate context, and the correspondence of the immediate context to the rest of Scripture.

  • Refreshingly thorough analysis

Thanks to brother Bill Schlegel’s diligence, many facets of each gem of doctrine are carefully examined. Whether or not I agree with each application or conclusion, I find these podcasts to be meaty spiritual exercise. Yum. Meat. And in this case, mostly kosher meat. So come and dine with brother Bill, per Hebrews 5:14.

Bill’s passion for the unity of God the Father is straightforward and spine-strengthening. Everyday for the last 3 months I have been shocked and rocked by the malfeasance of Bible translators. Everyday for the last 3 months I have been shocked and rocked by the malfeasance of Bible translators. I trusted them. They know what they are doing. If they didn’t know they wouldn’t give so many footnotes with all the exceptions at the bottom of every page of my ESV. Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

128) Atonement and Reconciliation - Someone else paid for my sin? Interview with author Kevin George
Q: How does the work of Jesus Christ relate to this idea of atonement?
The work of Jesus is about establishing a blood covenant and loyalty, requiring a change in the believer's life rather than just a legal payment.
128) Atonement and Reconciliation - Someone else paid for my sin? Interview with author Kevin George
Q: What is a better understanding of the correct idea of biblical atonement?
It involves a relationship with God, as exemplified in Jesus’ parables, where true repentance and reconciliation happen on a personal level.
128) Atonement and Reconciliation - Someone else paid for my sin? Interview with author Kevin George
Q: What are some of the biblical problems with the penal substitutionary atonement?
It creates contradictions about God's nature, makes God seem vengeful, and undermines true forgiveness. Many Old Testament scriptures contradict this model.
128) Atonement and Reconciliation - Someone else paid for my sin? Interview with author Kevin George
Q: Is a particular atonement doctrine important or necessary to be believed for salvation?
Not necessarily; it impacts how one lives, and a misunderstanding can lead to a superficial faith that doesn't reflect a real relationship with God.
