  • quiet intelligence

I discovered this podcast recently and it’s thoughtful approach to a terrible topic gives me hope for humanity. Ahmed Moor is such a empathetic but also tough interviewer— it’s really unusual in the world of political podcasts. Although the podcast focuses on Palestinian issues there’s a broadening of the lens to include the human experience in a way that I find quite profound. It’s hard to describe but I really appreciate it.

  • A response to the episode on the killing of journalists in Gaza

I appreciate Occupied Thoughts very much - thanks for all of your clear-sighted and brave work.

In the latest episode on killings of journalists Peter and the interviewee differed on their analysis of rape during the October 7th Hamas attack. I appreciated the willingness to challenge even those who broadly share one’s same perspective and goals. I just wanted to share a take on this issue I heard Mouin Rabbinni provide at a Busboys and Poets talk last October; he said that many military campaig... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Accountability and the culture of elite impunity in America
Q: What is the case for personal responsibility versus systemic accountability?
While acknowledging systemic pressures, the guest emphasizes individual accountability for those who knowingly directed or supported genocide, arguing for consequences to deter future violations.
Accountability and the culture of elite impunity in America
Q: Who bears responsibility for these policies and how could accountability realistically work?
The guest argues that accountability should target top decision-makers, with mechanisms ranging from legal action to political consequences and public shaming; real progress would require government action and potential reforms to empower victims to seek redress.
Anti-Zionism, Antisemitism, and White Nationalism
Q: What does PRA do and what is its focus?
PRA is a think tank based in Boston that monitors the right and helps pro-democracy and progressive movements understand and counter threats from the right, including antisemitism, Islamophobia, and white nationalism, with an emphasis on data and analysis.
Unveiling the Israel Lobby
Q: No, I think that the rise of J Street is a really important development... What is your view on how J Street fits into the broader ecosystem and its impact on policy debates?
J Street represents a different approach within the pro-Israel ecosystem, offering an alternative perspective that can pressure for human-rights aligned policies; while not perfect, its existence broadens the discourse and challenges AIPAC's dominance in shaping policy.
Unveiling the Israel Lobby
Q: Is that something you've seen in your research? What does that tactic imply about the ability to continue to follow the money?
Yes, there are third-party fronts like PACs or allied groups that obscure AIPAC's direct involvement, which makes tracing influence harder; the tactic signals both openness to scrutiny and a need for better transparency in campaign financing and lobbying.
