I read the book and listened to the podcast. She never claimed it was a dream. That was the excuse of an incompetent law enforcement officer. What she experienced was dissociative amnesia and PTSD! It’s a complete shame that this crime wasn’t better investigated.
I have this book and I found it to be so fascinating, and also so tragic. There is SO much more important and relevant info in her book that you absolutely have to read in order to truly grasp everything that happened. She includes SO much physical evidence of the crime scene, official reports, and so much more. If you read the book, you will see clearly that she has been telling the truth all of these years, but law enforcement/state & local officials have worked diligently to cover their mista... more
How to describe this one…
The narrator clearly changes his voice during the episodes to try to add more drama or land a voice-over gig or something. It’s rather comical to listen to him narrate, and then to hear his natural voice inflections and speech during the closing credits.
The voice over actors during the episodes do their best to sound like some sort of old timey play actors, reminding me of Billy Zane’s monologue in Tombstone.

Interesting story but I think the narrator needs to specify at the beginning of each episode that the interviewee is reading from her book. It’s very awkward and I found myself just shaking my head and rolling my eyes 🙄
Really interesting examination of time and guilt and crime. As much a character study as a true crime story.

The series presents a meticulous, long-form true crime narrative anchored in a real Minnesota case. Across episodes, the host follows Jill Houston as she reframes a decades-old death—Pearl's demise in 1993—through interviews, personal memory, and investigative findings. The storytelling blends memoir-style reflection with procedural detail, exploring whether Pearl's death was accidental or murdered, the implications of coroner's inquiries, and Jill's relentless pursuit of truth amid legal battles, arbitration, and local skepticism. A standout is the sustained, serialized approach that foregrounds memory, perseverance, and the human cost of seeking justice, all while weaving in family dynamics, community records, and the understated drama of... more
