Very sad story but why was it made into a podcast? Why was the script from the narrator written and performed in such a dramatic way? Why didn’t the main speaker (Jill) practice and polish her presentation more before recording? I kept listening because I was waiting for….any of these things to get better.
Of course writing the book was therapeutic. Why is that treated as revolutionary?
The last episode was just as useless as all of the others.
I am sure the lady did not intentionally lie (i hope) but sounds like her ex screwed her over so subconsciously she wants him in jail, made up a story to get him there. If there was really a murder plot against her why did no one try to murder her after? If she really witnessed two men fighting with Pearl she would of called the cops. She wouldn’t even go help when finds out there is a fire? She gives off maga vibes so its easy for people like that to accept lies are true. Seems mean to make mo... more
Both the host and the narrator are reading from a script - the narrator is apparently reading from her published book, which is a bit absurd. That makes for clunky and awkward dialogue that might as well be a poorly recited audiobook rather than a podcast. One episode in and I had to call it.
I read the book and listened to the podcast. She never claimed it was a dream. That was the excuse of an incompetent law enforcement officer. What she experienced was dissociative amnesia and PTSD! It’s a complete shame that this crime wasn’t better investigated.
I have this book and I found it to be so fascinating, and also so tragic. There is SO much more important and relevant info in her book that you absolutely have to read in order to truly grasp everything that happened. She includes SO much physical evidence of the crime scene, official reports, and so much more. If you read the book, you will see clearly that she has been telling the truth all of these years, but law enforcement/state & local officials have worked diligently to cover their mista... more

The series presents a meticulous, long-form true crime narrative anchored in a real Minnesota case. Across episodes, the host follows Jill Houston as she reframes a decades-old death—Pearl's demise in 1993—through interviews, personal memory, and investigative findings. The storytelling blends memoir-style reflection with procedural detail, exploring whether Pearl's death was accidental or murdered, the implications of coroner's inquiries, and Jill's relentless pursuit of truth amid legal battles, arbitration, and local skepticism. A standout is the sustained, serialized approach that foregrounds memory, perseverance, and the human cost of seeking justice, all while weaving in family dynamics, community records, and the understated drama of... more
