Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Amanda Zurawski on Surviving America’s Abortion Politics
Q: How has being in the public eye and reliving your story affected you emotionally?
It's hard to talk about this. Reliving my worst moments doesn't get easier emotionally, but it has been empowering to use my voice and share my story to help others find their power.
Amanda Zurawski on Surviving America’s Abortion Politics
Q: How did you come to realize the systemic failures in the healthcare system due to these laws?
I realized it was an institutional failure when my doctor explained that they couldn't provide the standard care due to the new law. This realization deepened as I discussed my situation and learned that many others were facing similar issues across different states.
Amanda Zurawski on Surviving America’s Abortion Politics
Q: What happened to you when you developed complications while pregnant?
At 18 weeks pregnant, I developed a complication called PPROM, where I lost all my amniotic fluid and my doctors informed me that I would be losing the baby. Due to the laws in Texas, they were unable to perform the standard care and I had to wait for the baby's heart to stop or for my health to deteriorate to receive treatment.
Amanda Zurawski on Surviving America’s Abortion Politics
Q: What was your experience like with the healthcare system when you first got pregnant?
I was seeing a reproductive endocrinologist. My experience was frustrating as it had taken a long time to get in front of the right people. I had concerns because my body was incapable of carrying multiples, and my doctor indicated that I would not be able to get necessary care in Texas due to the new laws.
Loss, Love, & the Road to Adoption with Alvina Vasquez
Q: What advice would you give to someone who's navigating their parenthood journey right now?
Go in with compassion, because a lot of these birth moms have challenging lives.
