  • If you are in Kentucky, a former Kentuckian that misses home listen to this show.

KET is a gem in the Commonwealth. When I went to school out of state I would watch KET coverage when I would think about home. Some of the best journalists in the country who are actually doing the job of journalism. God bless you KET. You give me hope that we can actually get though these times.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

March 20, 2026
Q: Why is this impeachment proceeding considered unprecedented in Kentucky's history?
Because it challenges the traditional understanding that impeachment is reserved for crimes or misconduct proven in office, marking a potential shift in how the legislature may police judges and other officials.
March 27, 2026
Q: What do you have your eyes on that's not budget related, especially with election law and other non-budget measures?
Besides the budget, attention is on Kentucky's election law reforms, including provisions about secondary forms of ID and sharing voter data with the federal government, which could affect voter access and privacy ahead of the upcoming primaries and general election.
March 27, 2026
Q: Good to be on. How do you feel with only four working days left, only two really that are veto proof? How are things going, particularly when it comes to the state budget making process?
The budget process is centered on ongoing conference committee negotiations for House Bill 500 and House Bill 900, with key differences including funding for juvenile detention centers and a potential 13th check for retirees; the approach emphasizes faster negotiation in a conference setting rather than separate House and Senate proposals, while acknowledging sensitivities in spending and rural-urban distribution.
May 15, 2025
Q: What does it mean to you to be able to do this?
It's really special and bittersweet; it reminds me of my late father who loved Westerns.
March 11, 2025 - A Bill Giving Lawmakers More Flexibility for Reducing the State Income Tax Passes
Q: How does JT Payne view collaboration in the legislature?
He believes in collaboration and compromise across party lines for better policymaking.
