  • I miss the old podcast

I don’t like this year’s new format. I’ve been giving it a couple months to settle since the change, but I don’t enjoy it.

I really miss starting the episode with the day/date instead of a wordy mouthful of headlines. It was just a better way to uniformly start before going into detail.

I also feel last year’s writing was simpler and more factual. I listen to this podcast while driving to stay current on what’s going on in the world, and the verbiage is more difficult, and taking quotes from ... more

  • Keep Gideon

I wish they’d keep Gideon on full time. He is the best by far. Cecilia Lay is monotone and sounds like she’s reading a very boring book.

So many of their reporters say “right?”, “sort of”, etc. throughout their report- very annoying and bad grammar. Otherwise, I love this podcast. It’s how I start my day, everyday.

  • Trump Touches Down In Bijing / Meteorologist Report on Global ’ Super El Niño

PM or President Xi is no fool. A stable yet stern warning had been given at end of meet. I’d say it is due to our present-sitting Presidents reputation for so-called domination and or control, to very possibly better a government regime of dictatorships. That had some seemingly too aggressive confrontations at points. Hopefully dust will settle soon. And as for our Meteorologist Reports on a possible ’ Super El Niño ‘, I feel soon, as we lack our own responsibilities to calm and or possibly reve... more

  • Not journalism. Time waster.

BAD: It’s almost all US issues. What do the rest of us pay for? So sick of them.

WORSE: There is no journalism here. It isn’t balanced or objective at all, it just reiterates US regime priorities and talking points. Since these are completely distorted, often blatantly false, and designed to manipulate US voters, Apple should offer coverage seen there a more objective and international lens.

Grow a pair, Apple. You’re losing people’s respect.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The little-known forces quietly killing the college degree
Q: Before we get to the AI questions, what is college for today and where do you see a gap between its stated purpose and the actual serving of people?
The guest argues that college used to be about self-discovery and human development as well as credentialing, but now many see it as primarily a pathway to a job, with debt and high costs prompting cynicism and a push toward alternative routes like community colleges or AI-assisted learning.
The Supreme Court clears the way for mass deportations
Q: Could you just walk us through how the justices reached this decision and then the practical impacts?
The court ruled that broad authorities reside with the president and the Department of Homeland Security, limiting the judiciary's ability to intervene, while also engaging in a constitutional challenge that critics say reveals racial undertones in the rhetoric of some justices, with the practical effect of making asylum processes harder and enabling mass deportations.
TV’s most beloved assistant coach says the World Cup is about to change America. Here’s how.
Q: What drew you to soccer and kept you engaged over the years?
A combination of immersive memories, the lack of commercials, the shorter, two-hour game format, and the sheer variety of moments that showcase technical magic kept pulling me back, along with the thrill of sharing those feelings with friends and fans.
How the Texas floods forever changed one family
Q: What did you set out to achieve with your new piece a year after the flood, personally and for readers?
To convey what it's like to be a survivor, to acknowledge the ongoing grief and trauma while also highlighting moments of joy, gratitude, and the steps toward healing and meaning-making.
How the Texas floods forever changed one family
Q: Part of your first piece that you published was a letter for your niece Rosemary. Why was it important for you to write that directly to her?
The letter captured a golden, peaceful moment before the tragedy and was meant to give Rosemary something to hold onto—a memory of happiness and a record of awe about her family's love and the strength shown by her mom.
