  • Directionless albeit harmful propaganda

Only gave 1 episode a listen, which is a bit of a cop-out, I know. But waxing fake moralism about those benefitting from war-derived prediction markets while simultaneously arguing that more women need to exist within that space left me so agape I could have stubbed my toe on my own jaw. Shame on VOX and everyone that worked on this sham of a production.

  • Forced to Unsubscribe

The guests you’ve chosen to have onto your platform time and again institute a type of sympathy for the fascism we are currently facing in both the US and our foreign policy. It had been extremely disheartening to witness the slow degradation of this news source. I let it slide, hoping that some of the guests were to play into hearing both sides, yet ultimately sharing evidence that outweighs their opinion. It never happened. There is no fact checking, explanations into guest’s POVs, and ultimat... more

  • Thank you

Always appreciate hearing from Ambassador Rob Emanuel. His insights are especially valuable now during this current round of insanity surrounding trump’s choice to enter into a war with Iran.

  • Needs a new host

This show used to be a daily listen. The new host (not Sean or Noelle) rambles and is so verbose. It’s jarring given how tightly produced and succinct this show used to be

  • 5 stars for Astead’s interviews

I had been considering unsubscribing because everything is a big jokey joke for Sean Rameswaram but Astead’s thoughtful and probing interviews have gotten me to stick around.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Mission accomplished?
Q: What allowed the Iraq mission to keep going after the initial invasion?
Dexter Filkins explains that while the U.S. military could destroy, win battles, and seize territory, achieving a just and lasting peace required political and civic stabilization, which was not achieved, allowing chaos to take hold and the occupation to falter.
Can someone explain these prices?
Q: Why are milk prices so variable by location despite a national average?
Pricing varies due to local store strategies, regional supply chains, transportation costs, processing, and different uses of milk in products, which distributes a big share to farmers and retailers differently by location.
Can someone explain these prices?
Q: Is the coffee price spike mainly about climate, or are there other factors at play?
Climate-driven crop shortfalls in Vietnam and Brazil are the primary drivers, with other factors like tariffs and supply chain constraints amplifying the effect on both Robusta and Arabica beans.
Can someone explain these prices?
Q: Why does gas price movement look so fast when crude oil changes, and why do prices drift down more slowly after a spike?
Because gas prices respond quickly to changes in crude due to production costs and storage dynamics, while refiners and retailers price in inventory already on hand, causing a slower decline once crude prices ease.
Trump has lost the Iran war hawks
Q: What went wrong in the initial planning and messaging around regime change in Iran?
Bolton argues Trump did not adequately prepare the American public or Congress, failed to build an international coalition, and did not sufficiently coordinate with allies or domestic actors, which undermined the legitimacy and feasibility of a regime-change effort.
