Reviews

4.6 out of 5 stars from 37 ratings
  • Propaganda of the lowest form

This is clearly an attempt to make the Haredi community look better than it is. But there is a reason (multiple reasons, actually)why the Haredi community is regarded with such disdain by most of Israeli society. Israel is languishing because 14% of the population simply does not contribute in a meaningful way and this podcast does nothing to address that.

  • Informative but softball questions

Great way to understand the complex world of charedie Judaism. Full of useful and scholarly information. Only complaint is that moderator seems to avoid asking the hard questions and calling out the guests when they fluff their way through answers. Worth the time.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 22 - The Charedi Parties, with The Times of Israel's Sam Sokol
Q: What distinguishes English-language reporting from Hebrew-language reporting in this context?
He notes the need to translate and provide extra background to help non-native readers follow the nuances, while maintaining journalistic fairness.
Episode 22 - The Charedi Parties, with The Times of Israel's Sam Sokol
Q: How do you navigate the Charedi world, given its fractal structure and Rabbanim's influence?
He describes building wide networks, being transparent about his non-Charedi stance, and earning trust through consistent, accurate reporting across factions.
Episode 23 - What is Charedi Ideology? With Combat Physician and Author Dr. Yechiel Reit
Q: What is the core thesis of your book and how does monotheism function as a defining marker for Chareidi ideology?
Monotheism is not just the assertion of a single Creator but a maintenance of reality by God at all times, which excludes independent powers as true co-creators. This absolute monotheism becomes the basis for viewing Torah as the sole source of obligation and meaning, pushing other value systems to be subordinate.
Episode 25 - "My Month in Basic Training" with Rabbi Yehoshua Pfeffer
Q: What has been the community response and future implications?
The community showed strong support; the experience could encourage more Kharedi families to consider enlistment and push the army to tailor programs to Kharedi needs, though challenges remain in areas with mixed views.
Episode 25 - "My Month in Basic Training" with Rabbi Yehoshua Pfeffer
Q: Why now and why you personally?
The decision was a long process with support from his wife and community; the broader manpower needs and personal example played a major role in choosing to enlist.
