  • A brilliant, insightful show

I am not visually impaired, but I have a family friend who is and so I wanted to better understand the issues that people like him experience. I am so glad that I found this podcast as it is very well presented and is very good at highlighting the key issues affecting visually impaired people in the UK today.

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Payment Card Accessibility, Changes to the Motability Scheme
Q: Why is there a delay or complexity in improving payment terminals and not just cards themselves?
The complexity lies in the split between banks (card issuing) and the retailers/manufacturers who run payment terminals; the industry is trying to influence manufacturers and coordinate with European bodies, but it requires cross-industry collaboration and regulatory alignment.
Payment Card Accessibility, Changes to the Motability Scheme
Q: What is the timing for when these accessible cards will be available?
Banks are implementing the changes gradually, with some already; all of them are expected to be signing up and broadly in place by the end of June 2027.
Payment Card Accessibility, Changes to the Motability Scheme
Q: Adam, first of all, tell me more about the thinking behind this initiative.
The initiative is about ensuring one card type can be distinguished from another, especially when both debit and credit cards come from the same bank; differentiating colours and improving legibility on the back of cards are key parts of the approach, along with uniform font sizes, contrast, and tactile features.
Running, Reading, Radioing
Q: Frazer, how do you enjoy books if you can't see them in print?
Frazer says he would have books read to him or use audio formats like CDs or audiobooks, highlighting accessible formats as essential for enjoying literature.
Running, Reading, Radioing
Q: How will the changeovers between volunteer guides work during the marathon?
Be My Eyes organized a group of volunteers behind the scenes, with multiple short pit stops where different volunteers join in, ensuring continuous support without tethering a single guide throughout the race.
