Fostering Teens: The Unexpected Adventure of Love, Laughter, and Life Skills
Q: How do you handle the challenges around discussing sensitive topics or showing affection?
We approach conversations with care, sometimes inviting the other parent to discuss sensitive topics, and we prioritize making interactions comfortable and non-embarrassing for the teen to foster openness.
Fostering Teens: The Unexpected Adventure of Love, Laughter, and Life Skills
Q: What inspired you to start fostering teens instead of younger children?
We found that we connected better with older kids and that teens have unique needs; with time, we learned to adjust our parenting style to meet them where they are, which helped us build trust and keep them engaged.
Love Without Limits: Redefining Family Through Foster Care and Shared Parenting
Q: Amanda, what do you see as the current pressing needs in the foster care arena today?
There's a nationwide and state-wide need for more foster families, and we're focusing on removing barriers by providing more supports, training, and collaborative recruitment with DSS and other agencies to help families feel confident enough to commit.
Reflecting on Season One: Real Voices, Real Challenges, and Real Hope in Foster Care
Q: As we wrap season one, what would you want listeners to do or think differently going into season two?
I want listeners to actively consider how they can help—through volunteering, supporting foster families, or seeking out accurate information—so that the community moves from awareness to tangible action.
Reflecting on Season One: Real Voices, Real Challenges, and Real Hope in Foster Care
Q: What do you hope that listeners are taking away from season one?
I hope they understand that these are real humans shaped by the foster care system, and that people can and should engage—whether as foster parents, supporters, or advocates—beyond stereotypes and sensationalized portrayals.
