  • Great listen, even for Outsiders!

As a woman in the midwest, completely unaware of how the tv/film industry works, I find this podcast a fantastic peek into an entirely different world! Highly recommend! It’s been especially fun to match voices and personalities to behind-the-scenes names that I had previously only seen scroll across the screen of opening/closing credits! Bravo IHW! Thank you!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Jenny Jackson on The Shampoo Effect and Writing Beyond the First Bestseller | Women in Entertainment
Q: What changes your view on adaptation of your books for screen or series, and how do you handle that potential shift?
Letting projects go into development can be a strategic choice to grow the audience, but I also ensure I retain control over the core story and resist losing the emotional throughline of the characters.
Jenny Jackson on The Shampoo Effect and Writing Beyond the First Bestseller | Women in Entertainment
Q: How did the characters in The Shampoo Effect compare to those in Pineapple Street, and what did you learn about writing ensembles?
The Shampoo Effect required deeper digging into individual backstories while keeping a broad sense of a social circle, which taught me to balance intimate character work with the dynamics of a larger group.
Jenny Jackson on The Shampoo Effect and Writing Beyond the First Bestseller | Women in Entertainment
Q: What was your writing process like for The Shampoo Effect given your full-time editing job?
I approached it with a mix of long breaks and intense bursts, letting the story unfold in chunks rather than forcing a rigid daily routine, and I allowed myself to write over extended weekends to build momentum.
Shana Stein on Directing The Boys & The Testaments | Women in Entertainment Podcast
Q: Walk us through some of the prep work on high-stakes episodes like The Boys. Is there tons of prep ahead?
There is a lot of prep: coordinating stunt choreography, previs, and getting the team aligned on a precise plan. The key is to have everything mapped out but to stay flexible on the day so you can respond to what the actors and crew bring to the scene.
Cara Cusumano on Tribeca’s 25th Anniversary and the Future of Storytelling | Women in Entertainment
Q: What advice does she have for filmmakers aiming to be selected by Tribeca?
Her guidance emphasizes building relationships, clearly communicating with programmers, and recognizing that submissions are part of a broader ecosystem where films must fit into a cohesive program, not just be individually strong.
