  • Best offer wins

Just listened for the first time. Very disappointed when one of you spoiled this book for me by mentioning a murder. Book podcasters should never include spoilers. I’m out.

  • Like a cozy conversation with friends

Easily one of my top 5 podcasts 💗 They have the perfect balance of random nonsense mixed with intentional book, book industry and literary content in each episode. I’d love more episodes throughout the month, but it’s probably the right amount to keep me wanting more without feeling like I’m getting behind. If I’m behind on an episode, it’s only because I want to read the book first so I’m thankful they’re not all book club episodes. I also recommend each of Becca’s and Olivia’s substacks!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Little One Book Club
Q: How do you feel your growth as a writer is on display in this book compared to your previous work?
Olivia believes she has grown significantly in terms of prose and has become better at following her instincts in writing, reflecting on how she adds depth and complexity to her characters.
Little One Book Club
Q: Was there ever a draft of this book that veered into erotic thriller territory?
In earlier drafts, there was more of an undercurrent of erotic thriller elements, but it eventually became less of a traditional thriller as Olivia understood the character of Catherine better.
Little One Book Club
Q: Did you originally intend Little One to be a cult novel?
No, it began as an exploration of a controlled community, with the concept of cults becoming more pronounced as the story developed.
Little One Book Club
Q: What was the seed kernel of the idea for Little One?
The idea stemmed from the concept of a person growing up in a very specific, controlled community, focusing on how such an experience would impact them, particularly women.
Nic Stone on making the jump from YA to adult fiction
Q: So you were talking to us before about kind of the objectification of sex workers in general, and then specifically erotic dancers. And one thing I noticed when I was reading this book that I really appreciated was how centered the book is on the women, with few exceptions. Can you explain your goals for those club scenes?
I wanted to portray the women in their full complexity, showing empowerment rather than victimhood, while also having conversations about objectification and the choices they make in their lives.
