  • Has potential, but unlistenable

There is good content in here, but the audio quality is just not acceptable, especially for a podcast targeting musicians who care about… audio. Fixing this, and putting more effort into the overall editing would help greatly.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

S5.5.2/E83: Music Publishing Isn’t Scary or Confusing + How to Land a Sync Placement with Kira Burr
Q: What are publishing administrators, and how do Song Trust and Centric differ from PROs?
Administrators handle the non-performance publishing royalties (mechanicals and international), complementing PROs; Song Trust and Centric take a share but consolidate publishing, making it easier to collect.
S5.5.2/E83: Music Publishing Isn’t Scary or Confusing + How to Land a Sync Placement with Kira Burr
Q: Why should a songwriter sign up with a PRO like ASCAP, and what happens if they don't register in time?
A PRO collects performance royalties; failing to register can mean missing money over years, while the choice of PRO isn't as important as actually registering and starting to collect.
S5.5.2/E83: Music Publishing Isn’t Scary or Confusing + How to Land a Sync Placement with Kira Burr
Q: So what is music publishing, and why should songwriters care about it besides their recordings?
Music publishing covers the rights to the songwriting itself and is a major source of revenue through syncs, streams, and licenses; it's often overlooked but essential to collect every penny owed.
S5.5.1 / E82: Composing and Scoring for Video Games and More w/ Boukie Games Co-Founder Kira Burr
Q: Olivia asks about expansions on different sync placements from a songwriter perspective.
Kira suggests that while she focuses on game scoring, songwriters can pursue sync libraries and build a portfolio by consistently engaging with developers, maintaining an active social media presence, and gradually approaching budgets with a clear price menu to establish expectations.
S5.4/E81: How to Record With or Without a Budget w/ LAVAGXRL
Q: So my main question is, do you do rough drafts for songs and what does that look like for you?
I'm very for rough drafts; I often record quick snippets or voice memos to capture melodies, then sketch in the DAW and finish later, sometimes finishing faster by improvising over a track.
