All Things "Young World" with Soman Chainani!
Q: What advice do you have for young writers?
Be authentic, don't chase the market, and keep a diary to discover and preserve your true voice; a diary can also help craft distinctive character voices like Benton's.
All Things "Young World" with Soman Chainani!
Q: How do you approach structure without a traditional outline?
I divide the book into parts that each feel like a different genre or mood, allowing me to experiment and keep the pace exhilarating, rather than following a linear outline.
All Things "Young World" with Soman Chainani!
Q: What is Young World about and how did it come to be?
It started from a shift away from fairy tales toward a political narrative about youth rising up, symbolized by a neon orange color, and evolved into a high-stakes political thriller with a teenage president and a global uprising.
Young World + Interview with author Soman Chainani!
Q: You mentioned you break your books into parts and you don't rely on a full outline. How did that approach shape Young World and its twists?
Chainani explains that he writes with little to no formal outline, using three or four parts to create distinct narrative experiences, treating the book as a ride where different forms and set-pieces emerge naturally, and revising extensively over years to ensure coherence despite the complexity.
Young World + Interview with author Soman Chainani!
Q: So Young World is your upcoming book. It's being released on April 28th, and I read it this week and I was blown away. Can you tell listeners a little bit about Young World?
Soman describes shifting from fairy-tale reimaginings to a bold YA political thriller about youth power and the consequences of a teenage president, with the narrative split into three parts that evolve from political setup to a murder mystery to an explosive finale, all told through a dynamic mix of media formats to reflect modern teen communication.
