  • Delivery needs improvement

It would help if Ms. Stanford would stop interrupting herself when she embarks on a thought to add side observations. Mr. Banks has occasional insights but sounds really pretentious. Also they occasionally talk over one another which makes listening difficult.

  • Amazing!

Just listened to How to Read Shakespeare my first podcast of theirs and it was amazing! Since I’m a teen who loves to read this is right up my alley! I’ve been wanting to dive into Shakespeare but have wanted a little guidance on it. This was perfect! I would recommend this to anyone who loves books, Christianity, and just chat about literature! I’m definitely going to listen to more of their podcasts! It rocks!!!

  • Yikes

Love the idea but the delivery is excruciating. Ms. Stanford constantly goes from this to that. When Mr banks chimes in, her response is constantly ok- wait for it. She must say this twenty times per episode. Anyone listening to this podcast is intelligent and truly wants to learn. I believe she has good information to share, but she really need some guidance in delivery and would probably be better to do this podcast solo

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 327: The Power of Story and "Galahad and the Grail" with Malcolm Guite
Q: What is the role of imagination in interpreting these old stories for today?
Imagination is the bridge that baptizes ancient stories into contemporary life, enabling readers to see gospel echoes and moral lessons within myth.
Episode 327: The Power of Story and "Galahad and the Grail" with Malcolm Guite
Q: How do you balance high modernist allusion with accessibility for a mass readership?
Guite argues for lucid, musical poetry that remains meaningful without requiring exhaustive knowledge of allusions, while still offering Easter eggs for those who recognize them.
Episode 327: The Power of Story and "Galahad and the Grail" with Malcolm Guite
Q: Why did you choose to start with the Grail itself rather than the backstory of Arthur and the Grail's origin?
Starting with the Grail creates a direct entry into the central image of healing and redemption, while the backstory provides necessary context later; it also allowed Guite to frame the larger conversation about how myth meets Christian narrative.
Episode 313: The Tower and the Ruin with Dr. Michael Drout
Q: If somebody's listening right now, how do I read Lord of the Rings to my six-year-old?
Don't worry about the details; let the story wash over them. Take your time, and enjoy reading it aloud, because it's written for oral delivery.
Episode 313: The Tower and the Ruin with Dr. Michael Drout
Q: Who do you think the audience of this book is?
In my opinion, the audience is intelligent people who love Tolkien, and I aimed to make it accessible to those who might feel alienated by academic jargon.
