Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Hisessions Hawaii Podcast Episode #260 - Kalei Gamiao, Musician
Q: How did the Kona Low floods affect your home and community, and how did you respond?
The flood prompted a community-led cleanup with family and Team Rubicon, including mangrove clearing to create a safe exit path; they procured supplies and shelter for affected families and highlighted intergovernmental delays.
Hisessions Hawaii Podcast Episode #260 - Kalei Gamiao, Musician
Q: What was your experience like performing and touring in Asia, particularly in Thailand?
He recalls the explosive ukulele scene there, with huge demand and thousands of instruments moving through stores, which showed him the potential of international markets before he anchored his career in Hawaii.
Hisessions Hawaii Podcast Episode #260 - Kalei Gamiao, Musician
Q: When did you first start playing ukulele and what sparked your interest?
Kalei describes starting around age 13, learning first on his uncle's ukulele, borrowing a vintage Kamaka pineapple, and gradually discovering real instruments and teachers that shaped his path.
Hisessions Hawaii Podcast Episode #256 - Dayton Asato, KC Waffle Dog
Q: How did KC Drive-In transition from a traditional drive-in to a fundraiser-focused model?
Dayton explains that after the family closed the original stores, he launched a fundraiser-based plan, renting machines and teaching others to run waffle-dog events. This not only preserved the waffle-dog legacy but created a scalable way for communities to raise funds while maintaining quality and nostalgia.
Hisessions Hawaii Podcast Episode #257 - Michael T. Shishido, Broadcaster
Q: What inspired you to create The Art of the Podcast Interview?
Michael explains he started writing after a layoff and saw a gap for practical guidance that helps broadcasters and aspiring podcasters conduct better interviews. The book focuses on interview structure, researching guests, and leveraging the expert on the page rather than reading a book cover-to-cover during an interview.
