  • Always a great listen

Brandy is the best interviewer! She has a format so you know what you will learn from her guests. She does a great job getting information from those she interviews and her focus is always on the guests! She shares a little about herself making the guests comfortable but then always gets back to finding out more about the guests and their artist journey.

QOF Episode 265 - Karla Overland
Q: What is the Cherrywood Challenge and how has it evolved over the years?
The Cherrywood Challenge started in 2014 with narrow parameters to keep things simple and finishable—small pieces, a single color, and a fixed 20 by 20 inch size. It exploded beyond expectations when 119 quilts arrived, turning a tiny home into a gallery and launching more than a decade of themed challenges featuring motifs like Lion King, Van Gogh, Diana, and Jane Goodall, with a juried traveling exhibit and strong sponsor support.
QOF Episode 265 - Karla Overland
Q: How did you get started with Cherrywood Hand-Dyed Fabrics and take over the business?
I began by doing graphic design work for Dawn Hall, the founder, and gradually became deeply involved in the fabric business when she needed someone to carry on after her battle with ovarian cancer. I joined in 2000, gradually took on more responsibility, and when the last partner's share came up, I took the leap to buy out, supported by a strong team and family backing.
QOF Episode 262 - Toni Smith
Q: How do you approach color in your pixel quilts?
Color is inspired by everywhere and everything; collaboration with my partner taught me about color theory and the color wheel, encouraging bolder, more vibrant combinations.
QOF Episode 262 - Toni Smith
Q: What motivated you to turn quilting into a full-time business?
A pivotal moment at Gen Con and the overwhelming joy in people's eyes when seeing the patterns made me realize the potential for a full-time path, reinforced by the positive feedback from fans and cosplayers.
QOF Episode 256 - Monika Henry
Q: What patterns or projects stand out in Monika's portfolio?
Among her notable works are Twisted Log Cabin, Rainbow Star (which sparked her foundation paper piecing journey), and the Alphabet series including Holiday Spirit and ElementoQuilt, designed to be beginner-friendly yet scalable and usable in various projects.
