These guys are the cool wholesome music dads we all need in our lives. This podcast is a delightful deep dive into the weirder corners of music (e.g. the Waffle House jukebox), and you can tell they’re having a great time doing it!
From Jandek to Tolk-Rock, sham bands & Zamrock, they cover the cool, weird shirt that deserves attention. They also got the chops to give due props to the tops of the pops. Killers & cops, mop tops & butcher blocks. Highly recommended!
Joe and Ryan do a great job digging deep into vinyl culture and music history.
Record collectors who love the stories behind obscure records and labels will love this pod. If you ever hung out or worked in a record store or were way into college radio, you will feel right at home with Ryan and Joe.
It would be awesome to spend a night at one of their houses listening to records. This is the next best thing.

1. Were you ever a college freshman who loved to hang out in the cool college record store, particularly in the pre-internet or early internet age, when discovering new music was hard?'
If you answered yes, then yes, you'll love Highway Hi-Fi. Listening to it makes me feel like I'm a 19-year-old hanging out at Cheapo Discs in Boulder, filled with a sense of awe and excitement at the vast world of music to be ... more

Ryan and Joe's podcast feels like you're hanging out with your cool friends with impeccible music taste. They have a reliable format with a theme where they focus on a particular topic, play some records from their personal collection that they love (and explain why), and have a quiz that is challenging but not obscure. I am able to play the quiz along at home and always get some of the answers right. Ryan and Joe have a comfortable and friendly dynamic which comes across well in the show. Recor... more
