  • H’mmm - could be better

I was looking for objective reporting, instead I’m hearing a pivot to opinions - some of your reporters get deep and personal how offended they are on the person or topic they’re discussing

  • Another Leftist Guitar YouTuber

Made a Trump joke about putting tariffs on orange paint. Is good friends with 60 cycle hum, a leftist tds yt channel. Has Ben Coombs as a moderator. A online troll and Canadian who constantly comments anti Trump propaganda. Ok, fine that’s your views Phil. But after finding this out, I refuse to watch and support you. Would be nice to keep politics off of guitar channels and if unavoidable get some republican guitar channels to even the field.

  • Thanks

For years Phil has been a great driving companion while on the road and a favorite You Tube channel when I’ve been lucky enough to have time to watch!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Why Cheap Guitars Have Better Features Than Expensive Ones
Q: If you had to pick between a bolt-on and a set-neck, does one inherently sustain better or be more costly to produce?
No inherent superiority in sustain is guaranteed by neck type; it's more about design, pickups, and overall construction. Bolt-ons are faster and cheaper to produce, set-necks can be more expensive to manufacture, while neck-through can be even more costly but offers different design opportunities.
Why Cheap Guitars Have Better Features Than Expensive Ones
Q: Would going from a Fender Player One (Mexico) to an American Pro 2 provide noticeable upgrades?
In the host's view, upgrades are nuanced; USA-made models may offer subtle differences in construction and resale value, but the core playing feel on many models is similar, so upgrades depend on the player's priorities, budget, and whether the larger price premium is worth it for them.
Why Cheap Guitars Have Better Features Than Expensive Ones
Q: Hey Phil, why do companies offer more advanced options on their cheaper guitars?
Because manufacturers aim to satisfy a broad base of buyers who want premium-feel features at lower prices, often aided by influencer-driven expectations and marketing buzz; this creates a perceived value stack that can nonetheless be misleading if not understood in terms of cost and marketing strategy.
How Guitar Brands Target Kids Vs Older Players
Q: Clayton asks about the Line 6 M5 for bass and whether the Line 6 HX Stomp is a better alternative.
I recommend the M5 for its balance of features and cost, and I mention that the HX1 can be a compact alternative; for bass, I prefer lines that preserve low-end when using overdrive and note that you can find good deals on HX1 or similar units if you're patient.
Guitar Center CEO Starting A Brand To Rival Gibson And Fender
Q: Greg asks why the premium Patreon membership is sold out, and what the tier limits mean for access.
Phil explains that caps are intentional to manage time and engagement, and that higher tiers are limited to ensure meaningful interaction, with a note that Patreon supports the ongoing production but cannot scale indefinitely without sacrificing personal time.
