Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Simone in Pieces by Janet Burroway | GSMC Book Review Podcast
Q: What was your initial inspiration for the story?
Her early short story about an English department meeting turned toward grief, and then she realized she needed to plot Simone's life across decades, which became the novel's spine.
A Story for Everything by Corey Rosen | GSMC Book Review Podcast
Q: How has your own experience with improv influenced your approach to storytelling?
Improv taught me to rely on listening, presence, and spontaneous connection; it's about making room for others' stories while you shape your own, which informs both teaching and performance.
A Story for Everything by Corey Rosen | GSMC Book Review Podcast
Q: Why choose storytelling assignments and interactive exercises in the book?
Because doing it is how you improve; exercises act as gateways to practice in classrooms or communities and turn reading into doing, which helps internalize storytelling skills.
A Story for Everything by Corey Rosen | GSMC Book Review Podcast
Q: What would you say to people who are going to do a job interview and want to tell more stories, but aren't sure where to start?
Start by listening and noticing how others tell their stories; use simple frameworks like the Ken Adams story spine to set up context, stakes, and change, then craft a personal narrative from those observations.
A Footstep Echo: The Complete Collection by J.D. Sanderson | GSMC Book Review Podcast
Q: What was your process for rewriting and editing these older works into a single, cohesive edition?
I edited on lunch breaks for months, smoothing writing, fixing a plot hole, and deliberately keeping the original plots intact while improving transitions and structure to create a more seamless reading experience from start to finish.
