Kate Vlasek and Lauryn Hunter are two women in their mid-thirties who generally geek out about all things pop culture, particularly nostalgic pop culture. A spur-of-the-moment purchase of a random assortment of Baby-Sitters Club books on eBay sparked the excitement that would become Generation BSC. And what is Generation BSC? First, it’s a micro-generation Kate and Lauryn have identified with betw... more

I’m late to the party, so I have a lot of catching up to do, but I love this so far. I’m going to try to catch up before the next podcast season comes out. I had been looking for another BSC read-along after The Baby-Sitters Club Club finished theirs. I didn’t find anything I wanted to follow, so I figured I’d take a BSC break for a while. Last week, someone suggested Generation BSC in a random comment on Go Fug Yourself, and now I have the BSC back in my life and I have hours and hours of enjoy... more
There is so much to love about this podcast. I love looking back at these books,A lot of times I completely agree. Even at age 8 some of the books to be pretty tone deaf.
Sometimes the wokeness gets too much for me.I get it white people are all racist and nobody else does anything bad ever and we should hate ourselves. Can we go back to the books? I like looking at the books from an adult point of you. But also these books are for a certain age at a certain time. We can’t go back in the fut... more
Sad that a podcast that makes such a thing about doing better showed itself to be nothing but performative as they engage Neurodivergent Rebel and participate in the erasure of those more profoundly impacted by autism or severe autistics.
Susan is not representative of all people on the spectrum but NR certainly isn’t either and it shameful to engage in a conversation without acknowledging the context of the 1980s and the 40% of autistics who never develop meaningful language. Their needs and ... more
I absolutely loved the Babysitters Club books growing up and I am so happy I found this podcast! It made me think of the books in such a different light and makes me want to dig out my old books and start to reread them! I really like the predictions segment and the fashion piece! I always liked the descriptions from the books and it’s interesting hearing them now- especially since I’m so much older and can’t even imagine wearing some of those outfits now!
P.S. I was totally a Mary Anne growing... more
I love lots of podcasts but your in my top three. This podcast is amazing
The best BSC podcast with a nuanced and critical view of the books! And at the same time...a ton of fun to listen to!
First of all, their theme song is 80s/90s fantastic. This podcast is on my regular rotation. I geek out along with their nostalgia and I really appreciate their commentary (especially about the new Netflix series!). Such a fun and informative podcast.
I’m loving this podcast!
I really appreciate how much thought and nuanced consideration goes into these discussions.
The Babysitters Club is great nostalgic fun, but it’s important to consider the effect of the books and show had/has on kids consuming them. I particularly liked the recent episodes conversations on race, gender, and class in both the books and Netflix show - the hosts do a good job of questioning and challenging their own biases as well as critiquing the writing and representa... more
Very enjoyable, the hosts are fun and have great chemistry and wow is it great to listen to people talking about these books again!
This show is great! Love their motto and the hosts are my new friends
I wasn’t a big Babysitter’s Club fan but my friend told me to listen to this podcast and it’s so great! The dramatic readings really make it and I love the analysis!
I’m only five episodes in but I’m really loving this podcast. Kate and Lauryn are fantastic hosts and seem like the kind of women I’d want to go for a drink with. It’s been so fun revisiting these books that I loved so much in my childhood.
I don’t understand how they keep referring to their generation as Generation BSC. That’s just 100% wrong. The first book came out in 1986 and myself and all my Gen X friends grew up with and were obsessed with the BSC. How weird to claim the books for a later generation as if we Gen Xers don’t exist. The hosts are tough to take, the tangents are long and winding and they never really agree with each other. It’s not an easy listen, I tried really hard to like it and gave it a good long try, as I ... more
I am so grateful I found this podcast randomly on ITunes! I had a moment of nostalgia the other day and this podcast made me wanted to revisit the books! Thanks for the amazing work on the podcast!
I've been listening to their episodes about the Netflix show and it's like they are living in my brain. Very enjoyable and thoughtful podcast.
