  • Interesting and Original

Great conversations looking at how the makers of some of our favorite content got inspired and what they pull on to keep giving them inspiration.

  • More Than A Talk Show

The guests bring tons of passion, but the host’s edit and voiceover work sets this show apart. He periodically zooms out for the context behind each piece of media in expansive and entertaining ways, weaving history with each interview and bringing the moments of formation to life. Love it. The production value is fantastic.

  • Great fun

This is a lot of fun. Especially when the items / ideas / media that are brought are described in the context of the world around the guest as they discovered them. The episode about The Bard’s Tale is especially resonant as it describes an era when you had to really use your imagination to fill in the blanks with gaming and also the way a kid would discover things and not have every possible angle or concept pushed out via digital platforms

That make discovery really hard for kids in 2026.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

7: The Far Side with Alex Berg
Q: How has The Far Side's approach to restraint and constraint influenced your own work and teaching?
He notes that constraints can spark creativity, citing the single-panel structure as a liberating constraint that pushes performers to be clever within limits, and he contrasts it with modern, highly franchised media to highlight the value of a self-contained joke.
7: The Far Side with Alex Berg
Q: Why do you consider The Far Side the platonic ideal of the form, and how did it shape your comedic sensibilities?
Berg explains that the single-panel format trains the eye to extract meaning from minimal information, creating space for the audience to fill in the gaps with their own imagination, which blends intellectual and base humor and fosters a unique, participatory experience.
6: Secret of Mana with Victoria Setian
Q: How did Secret of Mana influence your later work, especially your graphic novel Children of the Night?
The game opened her up to RPG storytelling and shown how visual atmosphere and narrative can coexist, influencing her Dracula reimagining and the collaboration with Savannah Gannucho.
2: Blade Runner with Garnett Lee
Q: So for you, when did it become vanilla ice cream? When did Blade Runner become formative or something that really stuck with you?
Garnett explains that Blade Runner's legacy and his re-engagement with it over time made it feel formative; the film's atmosphere, world-building, and the evolving endings contributed to its lasting impact, especially as he revisited it through different cuts and media expansions.
2: Blade Runner with Garnett Lee
Q: Mr. Lee, could you please introduce yourself, say your name, say what you do, and then also tell me a few things that you're passionate about.
Garnett Lee introduces himself, describes his work in the indie game scene in Stockholm, Sweden, and reflects on his past roles in product management, production, and game publishing, emphasizing his passion for indie games and helping studios reach players.
